Does paint selection influence your buying decision?
« on: September 20, 2015, 01:55:24 PM »

Wondering what you think about the lack of color schemes offered at this price point. While I like the new models and all of the advancements, I cannot pay $40K plus for three color options.

Since the bikes are made on the line I'm told, it would seem you should be able to get many color options, but yet we can't.

They (MOCO) don't even include color matched inner fairings, at least on the bikes I saw.

At the bare minimum, I would think they should offer a straight Black model as a CVO every year, that way if you don't care for the color options they offer, you could still get something you can stand to look at.

Your Thoughts?

Since the beginning of the CVO line they used to offer only two or three colors for each bike.(in the beginning they only offered one or two bikes designated as CVO also.) So it was a big deal to see the colors for the year. I for one was sold more on the bigger motor and other features the early CVOs offered and in turn found a favorite color out of my limited choices. I would not buy a bike if I didn't like the color though.
As others have stated I think the CVO line is just a trim model now not a separate custom model. I would like to see the CVO line evolve into a "build your own" bike line like H-D has done for some of their other bikes. Imagine going to your dealer and looking at a full P&A catalogue and ordering your "CVO" with a set of tins from the custom paint shop and any and all accessories you wanted so that when your bike arrived it would be truly yours and you just turn the key and ride it and no garage full of spare parts and downtime getting them installed. Oh well one can dream huh???

Sometimes it's more than just the colors or the schemes.  It's how they worked the two tone paint schemes in with the curves of the bike as well as the special graphics they employ that can have an impact on me.  But certainly color affects my decision, and for sure, I'm going to want to see it pulled out of the dealership to see what it looks like in the sun.  Let's face it, you'll rarely if ever see that bike again in mercury vapor or fluorescent lighting.

I for one am certainly not going to spend the kind of money it takes to get into a CVO, then buy one with a marginal paint scheme...or at least one that looks marginal to me.  And isn't that more or less the way we are with cars, too?

Sure the color makes a difference and I for one am glad they do not offer more color choices. Making only three, or two available makes them more "special". I disagree they should offer a black one? Why? Custom paint is part of the CVO deal.

Because Black lets you enjoy the machine, but without having to wait for a color you can stand to look at; If you don't like the schemes offered.

The only way it could get any worse is, if the price goes to $50K and they have only one color and try and convince you how special this bike really is.

I'll keep the 06' Electric Orange Jester and just wait I guess.

If you don't like it, paint the darn thing or buy a set of tins and paint those. We dump enough money into our rides that the price of a paint job isn't much more that what we spend on a plethora of other upgrades. I think it would be a shame to do, but it's your bike. I personally enjoy looking at most of the prior year's offerings and think "wow, that's a good looking CVO/SE" and remember when they came out. I think they are mostly recognized by us as CVO owners as the bikes someone was willing to go the extra mile and buy the nicest bike in the showroom. Just like some of the decals and paint schemes of muscle cars, they are recognized immediately by those that know their Mopar or Bowtie stuff as being the models that were a cut above the rest.

I do agree a custom order bike would be a really nice option. I've never actually thought about that, it can't be done?

Color used to be a primary deciding factor when I was younger....not so much as I get older.

My current bike (and matching trailer) would not be a color that I would have set out to buy, new.  But it was such a bargain on ebay that the color quickly fell to the bottom of my priority's....but it's growing on me.

While color isn't a high priority, much like t-shirts.....it would have to be an incredable deal for me to consider buying a black bike (or t-shirt) again.  Absolutely nothing custom about black and it's a color that has certainly run it's course.....plain vanilla. :nixweiss:

In '12 when I saw Ruby and had to have her....I'd seen the '12 black SESG...and at 30' it looked like a regular SG with some shiny wheels and parts. I wasn't gonna spend all that money and have another black bike.
I still get many compliments on Ruby's color combo.

MoCo does have a black CVO of sorts, in the Carbon Crystal (w/ghost flames SG)  for 2015 & 2016.  It looks great!  Color is very important to most.  MoCo has come out with some really nice paint on the CVO's, but they have lost their imagination in how to present them, with so many cookie cutter schemes, & flames, flames, & more flames.

On the SG, the Carbon Crystal is the only design pattern that is distinct from the other three have the exact same tribal pattern, and for two years running.  Also the same sub group (SG,RG,LTD) patterns are used on all of the 15's & 16's across the CVO models.  For years all have a combination of the same parts bin, with an occasional introduction of some new styled part.

I think MoCo offers not only offers the most custom colors of any motorcycle mfg. & some of the most awesome CVO colors, but they need to be a little more creative in the design presentation.  With the Rushmore advances in other models as, well, 110 motor kits, and the same recycle parts bin, Moco needs to improve the paint schemes and/or allow you to select the color and design scheme to go with it.

I love the CVO's but under it's current presentation, I feel it has run it's course, at 40K.  Who thinks it's really "Custom Vehicle Operations" is just that (CVO).
