They come off easily but I seem to remember that you need an adapter that is no longer in production to get any other tips to work.

If you look in the Harley catalog at the various tips for 4" mufflers, the ones I've checked all have a note under the fitment tab stating they won't work on the CVO mufflers.  I know that was true on the older models with the tips that attached to the muffler core endplate with four bolts, but I'm not so sure it's still true on the ones that have the three mounting holes around the circumference of the tip like the stock CVO tips.  Probably necessary to actually try one to know for sure, since the catalog often has bogus fitment information.

You can order cvo end caps directly through parts. Not the accessory catalog.

I assumed he was asking about changing to a different cap other than stock.  If he just wants one of the caps used on one of the CVO's, then of course he could order those through the dealer's regular parts catalog.  Sorry if I misread the situation.

The adapters used to be plentiful but some members have advised they are no longer in production.

Sorry, I could have explained that better, Fishtail and turn down end caps are open ended and require a set of adapters to go inside the end cap and another set to fit inside the CVO muffler to fasten the end cap too. Slash down , Piston and slotted end caps only require one adapter and possibly some shim washers to get fitment correct.  The open ended ones used to come with a set of adapters.
