Need Help to my 2009 Glide
« on: September 24, 2015, 07:36:36 AM »

Hello, for now i dont have CVO but i have  2009 Flhti .

The problem is : when i start the bike , and it runs , there is sound in primary like " clonk clonk" and when i shut down the bike it clonks near the starter..

Any idea what is the problem? Can it be primary tensioner or compensator Sprocket... ? or..?

A very common problem with your symptoms is the compensating sprocket.  Wear occurs on the spokes and ramps of the sprocket, causing reduced preload tension, resulting in the sounds you are hearing.  The only solution is to replace the compensator.  There are a couple of choice for a replacement compensator.  One choice is with a stock MOCO Screamin Eagle Compensator.  Another choice is a similar design compensator offered by a company named Baker.

Your sound could also be a worn primary chain tensioner, but is most likely the compensator.  The only way to know for certain is to drain the lubricant from the primary and to remove the primary cover for inspection...

09 was a very bad year for compensators.  If you still have the stock one, most likely it needs to be upgraded.

The question is which revision is the best one? I think HD compensators are like Doctors "Practicing Medicine" so I think the MOCO is practicing making Compensators. :nixweiss: Well that is how my pea brain thinks. :huepfenlol2:
