Having relatives along the sound in Washington we used to ride there up the coast from SF Bay Area once a year. Hwy 1 does connect to 112 via 113 at the sound in Washington which is cool. Although the SoCal to NorCal route is best done in reverse due to turnout access, from NorCal on up its not as imperative.  From twisty oceanic cliff hugging to meandering inland riding, the PCH offers a unique diversity of sights and experiences. Expect any kind of weather and as much as a 50 degree variance between the coast and inland temps within an hours travel
Googling PHC sights will give you an abundance of ideas of where to stop, what to do.

Where ever you go...what ever route you take....what ever time of year you go the most important thing is to keep your camera handy because we all know...... :worthless::2vrolijk_21:

It's a great trip.  I did it from SF to San Diego and it was spectacular.  Make a stop at Balboa island in Orange County...very unique and a great place to people watch and enjoy a nice breakfast or lunch.  In San Diego, I highly recommend visiting the USS Midway that is anchored in the harbor.  Some of the tour guides are the actual Midway aviators from the '50's and '60's and these guys are still sharp as a tack and loaded with hair raising stories...

If weather permits, in Washington take the Ferry from Edmonds to Kingston (or vice versa) and go through the Olympic Peninsula. It is jaw dropping. Alternatively you can cross between Fort Casey on Whidbey Island to Port Townsend.

I also agree with JC, there are some really beautiful inland routes you can take on the way up, hit the coast on the way back.

On your way up take a half day detour to Yosemite. It will change your life.

I fully agree, I rode the Olympic Peninsula this summer.  Just loved it, Cape Flattery was awesome.  Rode the 101 all the way up from Acarta CA.  One of my best trips ever.
