My motor cut out on I-5 today
« on: October 09, 2015, 10:27:31 PM »

The story:

New 2015 CVO Limited with 1300 miles. First service already done. Decatted head pipe with Vance & Hines Moster Ovals with FP3 Fuelpak installed. That's all that has been done.  On the way back from Las Vegas Bikefest staying in Canyonville Oregon for a couple nights. BTW the bike is being trailered behind our motorhome.

Started out on a 215 mile ride with the wife around Crater Lake area. All good until 20 miles from the RV park. Heading down I-5 and the bike loses power. Pull over immediately. Motor is still running but check engine light is on. Tried to rev it up but no throttle response. Shut the bike down. Tried it again after a couple minutes. It ran normally for a minute then engine light went on again and throttle was not responding. Nothing.

Disconnected the battery to try to reset the bike. Started it back up and it seemed okay. Got back on down the highway and it went out again. Let it sit. Tried again to start it and after a minute same thing. Engine light on and poor throttle response. The engines seems kind of eratic also when the engine light goes on. Shut the bike off.

A very kind local stopped and checked on us. He went home for his trailer and brought us and the bike back to the RV park. We are very thankful for that.

We are leaving here tomorrow and heading for home anyway so today was the last ride of our vacation. We might stop at Latus Motors HD tomorrow to have them check it out. If not I will take it to the dealer where I bought it from.

After this long winded story does anyone have any idea what the problem could be ? Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you check for the diagnostic codes?

Not sure what your problem can be but it sounds like your bike is going into limp mode.  What trouble codes is the bike putting out?

Chapter 2 of the story:

Got to the dealer today and they found DTC code P1356 rear cylinder no combustion. They had it idle for awhile with no engine light on.
Tech went for a long ride and no problem. They said the rear plug wire seemed a little loose on the plug so theymade it fit tighter and replaced both plugs for good measure. I waited for the paperwork and when I was riding the bike to load it back in my trailer the engine light came back on. Back into the dealership.

This time there were two codes of P1510 Throttle actuator control limited  and P2138 Twistgrop sensor correlation error. The tech was baffled and I mentioned the FP3 Fuelpak map that was downloaded into the bike. The service advisor forgot to tell the tech that. They hadn't seen the FP3 before so they didn't know anything about it.

I then think I succesfully put the bike back into stock map by deleting the map in the ECM. The codes still came up and the throttle was having no response like yesterday. After trying to make sure the map was uninstalled again and re checking the codes they were still there. Their code manual indicated the ECM had to be replaced.  After 3 1/2 hours I finally gave up and loaded the bike into the trailer and headed out of there. I will take the bike back to my local dealer when I get home in a couple days. It's a little disappointing but it's the way it is.

I will update when I hear some news from my local dealer. Thanks for reading and chiming in all.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, and hope you get it sorted soon and easily.  The good news is you aren't stuck thousands of miles (kilometers?) from home.

Thanks. That's for sure. It could have been in the boonies when it happened yesterday. Almost home now.

DTC codes P1510 and P2138 now repaired. It was the TPS that was replaced. Time to ride again.

Thank you all for your comments and assistance.
