I came back home yesterday from a short visit to my wife's parents in south Arkansas and snapped this series of photos as I rode north along Hwy 65.  The map below shows the portion of my route (on the right side of the map with the Fayetteville/Rogers area at the left side) I took these pictures at.  The fall colors are starting to show, as you will see.  Come along for the ride!

There almost isn't a bad time of year unless it's raining or snowing!  But snow is pretty rare except in the northernmost areas and usually only in Jan thru early March.  Rain on the other hand...well...we won't go there! 
This September and October so far have been awesome.  Low humidity up here and cool nights.  We've had pretty dry weather with those beautiful blue skies you saw in the photos I took being common lately.
Even late April and May can be awesome but the rains are unpredictable.  Early June is when we're talking about the GTG at Eureka Springs in 2017.  If you have to wait till school's out, that's going to be the coolest of the summer months. 
I've got plenty of maps and websites and info on the Ozark, Boston, and Ouachita Mountains and forests, and there's good riding to be had in all three areas.
PM me if you want more info, and thanks for asking!  I think we have the best riding between the Smokies and the Rockies, but then I'm partial!

There's usually a few degrees diff between you and me, Bob.  Your color change peak will occur about a week earlier on average than mine as a consequence.

Below is a photo I took a couple of falls ago looking southeast from the pass road about 3 miles south of my house.  The tower in the distance is at the town of Bull shoals, about 4 miles away.  There's about a 300' drop-off down to the lake back behind you and to your left.  It's a heckuva view in winter with no leaves on the trees.

Yes it is, Bob.  We still want to get to Memphis before it gets too chilly to enjoy Beale street and the rest of it.  Want to go on weekdays for about 3 nights, though to avoid the crazyness of weekends.  You two wanna tag along?

Thanks for the pics, color is coming quickly. Made a quick run up Ar59 today to Noel, then 90 across to 71 and back home. Things keep progressing and the winds dont get crazy in the next couple weeks it is going to be a beautiful fall

I hear you!  I want to get at least one more run in thru the Ozarks and around the Buffalo River before the end of October.  Also the Sylamore area between Mountain Home and Mountain View is a great place to go looking, either on a bike down 341 or in a Jeep and do some off roading where the traffic's less!

Great pics, thanks for these!  We're now getting the cold front in No. AL, so the trees are turning colors. Predictions are for a cooler-than-normal winter here, so we'll see!
