I have been reading about the Dragon and the Cherahala so I Rode them two years ago. Then all the Chatter about Maggie Valley I bit the bullet and am buying a 3500 ft home on a creek with Tennessee roads all around me. Got two years until wife retires but I will drive up from Louisiana aften to check on home and Ride alot of these beautiful roads. Wife was wondering why I was so eager to cash in most of my retirement money. The creek is beautiful the sound of the water can be heard from the upper or lower rear deck. I am Happy!

Hey, you only live once, and you need to make it count for everything you can!
We chose north Arkansas for the mountains and clear waters and mild winters, plus it's a lot less humid than south Arkansas.  I know you can relate coming from Louisiana!
We drove the 260 miles (one way) to this place over 2 dozen times over the two years I owned it before we moved here permanently, and we've never looked back.  Best thing we ever did was quitting the rat race and getting away to a place of our own!
Congratulations!

I have Ridden to Mena, Hot Springs, The Hub of Hwy 7 and Eureka Springs. Very Nice! Mena is only 300 miles from where I live in Louisiana. Taking the longer way through Texas through Broken Bow was about 70 miles farther but worth it. From my home to the
Cherahala Skyway was 900 miles. Did that twice. Now it's only 110 miles.

Very nice! Congratulations on the new home.

My wife and I are leaving Connecticut next Monday for our new home in Smyrna, Tennessee. To young to retire so I'm transferring  to the company's Nashville office and with any luck I will finish out my career there.

Welcome to Tennessee from the South Nashville/Brentwood area.  We get to experience the full range of weather here from 100 degree humid summer to below zero winters, wet Springs and dry Falls.  Theres a saying around here if you dont like the weather it will be different shortly.  But seriously winters are mostly short and summers are bearable.  This is home and we like the seasonal variation except for the occasional ice storm.

Congratulations on the New Cabin in TN for your retirement.  I moved here when I retired from the Navy in 2001, but I am still working.  I'm about 80 miles from the Cherohala skyway.  I'm on the TN river, or Watts Bar lake in the Ten Mile Area.  What area is your retirement home in?

Lots of great roads here.  Many of us on here can point you to many great rides or even lead you on them.

Buffalo River and Creek near Trails End and BreamStone Recreation
Got some crazy going on's with ATV camping parties, simular to Biker Camping and Parties. The ATV crowd is generally younger than the Biker crowds.

My mistake. New River / Buffalo Creek.  Gonna take a while to learn the area.

I'll second that Dave.

My mistake. New River / Buffalo Creek.  Gonna take a while to learn the area.

So your cabin is around the Huntsville, TN area or around the New River, TN area?  Either one is correct for your comment on the 4 wheelers and such.  I'm on Hwy 62 right between Oliver Springs and Wartburg.  I can cross  hwy62 and be at Windrock mountain in about 15 minutes and never hit a paved road.  There are hundreds of miles of good 4 wheeler trails all around along with some great paved high and by-ways (as Dave stated).  One can ride from Oliver Springs, TN to the Kentucky/TN state line all on trails..... :2vrolijk_21:

Congratulations on the cabin!  We got our lake house last year.  My family has lived in Knoxville and Maryville for years.  We go up there a lot.   One son lives in Cleveland and we have land in Benton. All around those mountains and great riding. Enjoy life while you can!
