They changed to a better and higher capacity needle bearing for the inner cam bearings starting with the 2013 engines.  The part number listed for 2013 - current CVO110 engines is 24018-10 Bearing Kit, needle.  You will hear them called either Torrington style or full complement, as compared to the cheaper and lower capacity needle bearings previously used.  Btw, a needle bearing is a roller bearing, just with tiny rollers.

The outer cam journals don't ride on ball or roller bearings since 2007, they just ride on the aluminum of the cam plate with a thin film of oil between the parts.

I'm curious on what the conventional wisdom is on changing the inner cam bearings when doing cam swap on a relatively low mileage engine (2015 CVO 110), say less than 5K miles. Since the engine is reported to have the better needle bearings in there now would a change be necessary, unless its a "wear in together" thing with the new cam.

Also, do the bearing removal/insertion tools for a 96/103 engine work for the 110? (showing my lack of knowledge a bit)

Thanks,

Joe B.

My thought is that the cam shaft is the inner race, and they are cheap.  S&S cams provide the cam install kit when you buy their cams.  I also believe in changing lifters with cams, but that is probably a different topic.
