Left body shop over 25 years ago to work for USAA as staff. Boys, regardless of cost you cannot beat USAA when you need them whether it is a car/boat/bike whatever. They want your business, call and get someone who is not on your wave length, just ask for a manager and explain your problem. The folks who work there are paid BIG yearly bonuses and they also want you happy.
But as noted above Progressive is the handler for USAA bike insurance. Progressive sucks so bad now, even worse than when I had to deal with them in Body shop that is it just amazing how a company that cares so little can grow so much, but if your bike policy turns into a problem just call USAA and explain, to a manager, what Progressive is trying to do and they will assist.
For those of you who think loyality does not matter, you need to work for a insurance company. When a problem is presented that is questionable, not a normal unhappy but a real questionable problem, the first thing they look at is length of policy. Longer the better. Get that 25 year member decal and you are golden, buy more products like, Life/Senior Care/Home Loan/Mastercard/Investments etc, the more important your problems become and they quicker they are handled.

... Longer the better. Get that 25 year member decal and you are golden...

I've been with State Farm since 1985, Auto and Renters Ins... now Home Owners Ins.  My Auto Policies cover a 2009 883 Sportster, 2011 CVO Ultra, 2014 Chevy Cruze, and 2015 Chevy Silverado LT... all at less than $220/mo.  Complete Full Coverage to include UIM, and $500 deductible.  States I've been covered include Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alaska.

My current agent has been with the company for 15 years and Wishes she could get my Rates.  Absolutely no issues with any claims, but the only Claim that was truly my fault was a totaled 1979 Honda CM400T back in 1987 when I was still young... the adjuster came to my In-Laws house, as I was away from home, wrote out a check minus the 'salvage' value I gave as $500, and then I purchased a new 1987 Vulcan 750 a few months later without getting any kind of backlash for having just totalled a bike.  No rate hikes or anything.  The Premiums just kept falling year after year... and there was a time when I would get a dividend check in the mail each year, something about paying more than the average or something like that.  But, since I've been with them for 30 years now... I think the dividends stopped about 10 years ago.

I think the trick is to find what you can afford, whether it's cheaper than the next guy or not... and stick with them for a few years.

I would caution everyone to read the addendums that are packaged with your renewal information.  I had been with State Farm over 30 years until I got fed up with changes they made in the policy.  Although my premiums stayed pretty constant,  the benefits and the ease of handling claims got worse as they changed the terms of the policy.  Kind of like the shrinking Hershey bar!

Been with USAA for 20 years now.  Never an Issue.

No questions on a boat claim, even waived the deductible as I had never had a watercraft claim.

My wife's bike and Mine both got lots of Hail damage at Sturgis this year.  Very easy to work with did not question anything, even things the dealer said were damages that I though was questionable or pushing the envelope.  The insurance co handled it great, now for USAA, progressive under-writes their motorcycle policies.  It is a USAA number you call, but still progressive.

Just purchased 2016 FLSS..  Geico was best as compared to Allstate and USAA (farms to Progressive).

Thanks!  :2vrolijk_21:

I am sure what I am saying is controversial . . . but I do not carry UM on any of my vehicles.  Why?  Because it is so expensive.  What happens if another party with no or limited coverage damages your vehicle and maybe causes bodily injury?

If you have collision coverage you policy will pay to repair / replace your vehicle.  Of course it will be considered a 'chargeable accident' and you will have to pay the deductible - same as if you were at fault.  If your insurance company has to pay they will gig you no doubt.  I cannot speak with authority about the laws in every state especially those with no fault laws so you will need to check on that.  My state (and most others I think) require UM coverage unless you specifically reject it in writing.  The insurance company has a form for that so I guess I am not alone in my decision.

As for bodily injury if you have good medical coverage then your plan will pay.  In case of serious injury you will have no one to sue for damages above actual medical care since the at fault party with no or limited insurance most likely has few if any assets.

So while it is taking a risk I consider it a risk worth taking.  Over the course of many years I've saved countless $$ in premium and thankfully have never had an instance where I would have needed UM coverage.

Do not carry UM for the same reasons you mentioned.  I figure all those years of premiums saved adds up.  BTW, I carry higher deductibles for the same reason. At this point the premiums saved more than pays for any increased deductible amount.  Then again, I look at insurance as a necessary evil.

20 years ago was a very loyal customer to a brand.  Then 1 well established company moved out of the state & left all insured high & dry, my premiums increased because of that. No fault of my own since the insurance company move dropped me.  So what? was the response I got from all companies.  Insuring during my kids teenager years proved to me that my loyalty to a company meant diddly squat.  Therefore I shop. And save.

Living in Louisiana which has the highest number of uninsured motorists in the country, you'd be a complete idiot not to have it, even if it is also the most expensive in the country.

I knew it would be controversial.  According to the Insurance Research Council here are the top 10 states for uninsured motorists:

The top 10 states include:

1. Oklahoma: 25.9%
2. Florida: 23.8%
3. Mississippi: 22.9%
4. New Mexico: 21.6%
5. Michigan: 21.0%
6. Tennessee: 20.1%
7. Alabama: 19.6%
8. Rhode Island: 17.0%
9. Colorado: 16.2%
10. Washington: 16.1%

My fair state comes in at number 6 but I do not see Louisiana on the list.   :nixweiss:

3.    New Jersey: $1,244
4.    New York: $1,196
5.    Rhode Island: $1,142
6.    Florida: $1,124
7.    Delaware: $1,110
8.    Nevada: $1,078
9.    Alaska: $1,077
10.    Michigan: $1,064

Just lucky I guess JC.  No matter where I travel or who I speak with everyone seems to think the drivers in their city/state are just the worse.  From what I've experienced most are equally BAD!  Especially around any reasonable size metro area folks are in such a hurry weaving in and out of lanes to save a precious few seconds and traveling at well over the posted limit.  While on a bike I try mightily to avoid such areas but unfortunately it is not always possible when on a road trip.

It appears insurance threads are about as controversial as oil, spark plug, polish/wax, and nitrogen vs air threads.  Anyway, am pretty sure I get 3 more HP & 4.5 more ft/lbs of TQ from my current insurance company  :-* , and at least 2 mpg better gas mileage  ;).  Results may vary.   ;D

I understand that bad drivers are everywhere.  But I'm talking about uninsured motorists.....I know that Calif. has a hell of a lot!  And insurance prices....I was sure we were the highest in the nation.  It's part of the California sunshine tax that's also known as the cost of living here.

Under insured motorist is another coverage.

I'm in state 6 for most uninsured motorists.  We have a very high percentage of under insured also.  Most people that do get insurance get the bare minimum coverage.  That coverage would not cover the replacement of a CVO if they were at fault and totaled your bike.
