Helmet Speakers
« on: November 03, 2015, 10:41:44 PM »

Has anyone changed the Harley helmet speakers that come with the 2015 CVO. Mine don't seem to be loud enough to hear while riding at higher speeds.

I've used J&M helmet headsets for the last 13 years or so and have been pleased with their performance. The ones in my half helmet, which get the most use, were the first ones I bought. They still perform great although the mic is old school with a thick boom and larger mic/wind sock.

I do have the J&M head set from my old CVO. The said there is now a better ear piece. I'm heading to AZ for work and will stop by to see them. Thanks for the response CaptRat . Just wanted to make sure there was nothing else.

When I initially installed them in my helmet they weren't in the proper position. Had to do some custom fitting to position them in the helmet in the right spot. Once I got them in the prime spot they sound great. It doesn't take much this way or that to cut the clarity and/or volume.

Are you talking about the J&M or Harley speakers?

Many of us have upgraded the headsets with either J&M or EdSets.  See here:  ?? Upgrade to H-D "Premium" Headsets??

Suggestion:  Make sure your speakers are centered directly over your ears to give the best sound.  I found my speakers were positioned too high in the helmet.  When I placed them correctly, the sound was much better.

The new stock speakers are actually just as good as boom audio speakers. The helmet and position make a huge difference in sound quality. Half helmet and they are awful/worthless, 3/4 they work well and full face is best. Less wind and noise the clearer the sound.

Just left J&M, had them install the better helmet speakers. The difference is night and day compared to Harley's and the stock J&M. Best money I've spent in a while.  :apple:

I totally disagree with 610HOG, I have tried both the J&M and HD speakers and the the latest HD are better than the latest J&M by far. Can't imagine why anyone would need to have someone install a helmet speaker but if you feel that way maybe you had your Harley speakers mounted incorrectly. Greg was correct above, you must get the speakers centered over your ears and as close to your ears as possible. The new HD speakers are thicker and in a full face like a NeoTec they fit very snug and are amazingly clear.
I tried the J&M because a friend of mine bought them and gave them to me because in his words "they sucked", I took my HD's out and installed them and very carefully centered them, he was right in his assumption. I gave them back to him.

To each his own.  That's why there is more than one flavor of ice cream.

I use the stock HD helmet speakers. As others have said, it is imperative that you center the speakers over your "ear holes". It doesn't take much off of center to degrade the sound.

I've never heard the J&M speakers so can't speak to the comparison of the two.

Unfortunately the speakers don't fit in the HJC helmet. I choose not to dremel my helmet to make it fit. If everyone thinks they are so nice, you can buy mine.
