Lefty bearing
« on: November 05, 2015, 08:53:29 AM »

With out finding a qualified machinist in my area who I trust, would/does the "lefty" bearing that HD sells serve the same purpose? Would be using on a roller bearing bike. 2003.

The "lefty" is just a replacement updated for your original part. Anybody with the right tools and experience can do the job.

They work just fine.
And actually, prior to the Timken conversions, and the advent of the Lefty, we built some very powerful engines utilizing the OE roller set up.
S&S 116"s to be exact, with power squaring off in the 130's.
4" hole X 4 5/8" arm.
Never had any issues.
When the OE cranks were sissoring constantly years ago, many folks thought the roller bearing was the issue, in chicken/egg thinking.
Not so, as we all know now that the crankshaft assemblies were not built correctly from HD.

personally,i wouldn't take a motor aprt to replace a bearing with basicly the same bearing (exept for being black & saying "screamin eagle"),do the job right & install a Timken conversion
