Stalling and surging
« on: November 08, 2015, 07:47:17 PM »

2012 cvo road glide... Bought the bike with about 15k miles on it.. Stock down to the mufflers.  It's had a random stalling and surging problem since I got it. I have cleaned the tb, sensors behind the tb, air filter, plugs, put a fuel moto pc-v and deleted the o2 sensors per the pc manual.  Put dresser duals and full sac baffles in... The more I ride it, the more often it stalls... Last few days in Galveston, it stalled on a low speed u turn and I put it on the crash bar.
To the point, I'm about to trade it in.

Any pointers?

Any codes?

I would check for loose wires including the ECM connector being seated well.

Check for intake air leaks.  Sounds like it's running lean, which will cause surging and stalling.

No codes.. No cel.  Plugs looked good when I changed them.  Electrode was worn and had carbon cake on them.. So I changed them.  Will check intake for leaks when I get a chance.

Replace the plug wires with stock OEM wires while you are maintaining things

Have you checked the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel line inside fuel tank?  Pinhole leaks in the internal fuel line cause these problems.

Your problem sounds like symptoms of a sticky IAC sensor.  (Idle Air Control sensor).

Was your IAC sensor replaced when your throttle body was replaced?

Didn't replace the tb only cleaned it.

Have not done anything with the filter lines or pump.
Anyone have a diagram of the filter location?

The PC-V is going to dumb down a very intelligent and sophisticated Delphi ECM.

1.  What is the targeted AFR while surging and stalling?  What is the actual AFR during this?
2.  How was the tune set up?  Was it on a dyno or did you get a canned calibration?
3.  What is your fuel pressure?

You can check all your lines and filter but put a pressure gauge on it and make sure you are holding the pressure the book stated.  Then go ride it and make some hard pulls.  Does fuel pressure keep up?

No IAC w/ TBW.

Don't know anything on the tune... Fuel moto sent it with one of their tunes in it.

Once on the highway it runs fine... Pulls great, always has. Even stock it has done this surging and stalling.
So I don't blame it on the tune or pc.. It was something I tried to get rid of the problem.

The fuel system (fuel pump, regulator, filter) is located internal to the fuel tank.

Did you check for exhaust leaks before putting on new exhaust and tuner?

I'd also check to see that your not missing the little black plastic/rubber cap at the end of the small tube (circled in orange) in the photo's below.

My brother lost his and it raised havoc until we replaced it. Very easy for one these to get dislodged and lost,  such a simple and easy fix once identified.

Good luck on identifying and solving your issue.
