Powered Saddlebag and Tour Pak Lock
« on: January 25, 2007, 05:23:55 PM »

Have any of the 2004 to 2006 Screaming Eagle EG or UC Owners been looking into installing the:
Powered Saddlebag and Tour Pak Lock that comes standard on 2007 SEUC?

I have asked a few local H-D parts guys but no one seems to know anything if available and can it be installed on other SE

Let me know if someone has done any in depth inquiring...please

Be kewl to be able to lock/unlock the 3 locks with the push of a button....OK I know I am lazy but I like technology

I help a buddy look at it but you needed several new pieces and he dropped the idea.  Then we where told that they where having issues with the operation of the saddlebags.  I would be worried that if it failed or something got fowled it the cables while locked could you still unlock it.

How much space do the things occupy in the TP and Bags?  I know the switches on the dash are different on the 07's, so that would be one PITA to change out.

I also was wondering how users of 07 Ultra CVOs were finding this new feature - useful, working.  Could be good to know general view regarding this new option.

Thanks

Don't take much room but like you said you'd have to run the wiring and change out the switch.  No biggie but a job nonetheless.

You can still lock and unlock the tour pak and saddle bags with the key if you desire or if the electric locking mechanism would fail.  I like the convenience of being able to lock/unlock all three at the same time.  I don't have to go running around the bike now when I park it to check and make sure all the bags are locked.

Red, I've gotten into a really bad habit of locking the bags & just walking away (knowing the alarm is active)... and forgetting to lock the fork.

AJ,
I know what you're talking about.  I have to consciously remember to lock the forks before I leave the bike.  With the old bike I had the key out to lock the tour pak and the next logical thing was to continue and lock the fork.  Now the step of locking the tour pak with the key has been removed I have to force myself to remember to lock the fork.

;) ;) ;) I found it realy usefull on my previous bike (Goldwing). Not necessary to turn all around the bike to check that every storages are closed.

I hope that the system don't take too much place in the storages of my futur FLHTCUSE2. I have read in other posts that the leather tour pak is already smaller than the plastic one; it will be even smaller than the 2006 version with a huge locking mecanism.

There's a unit in each piece.  The saddle bags have about a 0.75"x2.25"x5" box mounted in the bottom.  The same box is under the liner of the tourpak.  The 06 doesn't need to change the tourpak liner, it's the same; but the saddlebags need a new liner as well as all the hardwear.  The locking feature makes manual locking more difficult by a little bit.  The actual lock unit is in the hinges of the bags, so I'm not sure why we need 3 boxes.  They should be able to put on box under the seat and power all 3 lock units from it.  I like the idea though and use it regularly.  Not having a keyfob to do it doesn't bother me.
