2016 CVO Street Glide exhaust options
« on: December 01, 2015, 03:19:19 PM »

Best option for slip-ons for my new Street Glide? I love the stock ends on the new CVO, but it seems that fullsacs aren't for me. Going to keep everything stock for now (cat, head pipes) "except" the slips. Need some good sound, but not overwhelming. With just slip-ons, will anything need to be recalibrated/tuned/mapped? I'm tapped out with this purchase, so I'm up for any suggestions that can keep costs down...Thanks!

why aren't the fullsacs for you?  you can open up the pipe some, without adding a lot of unnecessary noise, and you don't change the look.  can't beat the price either.

I love what I have read about Fullsacs, but I'm honestly not mechanically inclined enough to install the Fullsacs, and I can't find a dealership or a mechanic in this area who will do it for me...As such, it seems my best option will be simply to do slip-ons...

I am sure that you can do the install. It's not really hard at all.

Remove muffler then remove the shield and end cap.

Use an air grinder (faster) or a Drexel (slower) and go slow on the welds in the current baffle, then tap the baffle down so you can clean the welded spots smooth before finally removing the baffle.

Get the screens from Fullsac so you can install 1/2 of the original packing in each muffler. To do this unwrap one of the original baffles and cut that length in half. Compress screen and wrap material around it and install into muffler.

Drill one hole in muffler per instructions and install new baffle, making sure that it lines up properly on the inlet end. Install end cap and shield and repeat for the other side.

You can always ship the mufflers to Steve @ FullSac to have the recore done

Check out Kury Crushers, the Mellows are not loud at cruise but have a authoritative sound on the throttle. RC Componenets make some nice slip on's too. If just changing mufflers no calibration necessary, but a good tune will get rid of the heat associated with lean EPA tune your bike has now.

Except the RC has 2.5" baffles, which of course is too big for a catless headpipe.

Fullsac cores are definetly the best bang for your buck. Like the others said, send them to Steve and have him install the cores.  Not sure of the cost but just call them and ask.

Also keep your eyes out for used mufflers on here and the hd forum. Always something up for sale.

I re-read this and see you are running the OEM headpipe for now. All the more reason to do Fullsac. Have them install the largest baffle for now and also buy their 2 inch cores. Then once you get a catless headpipe, all you have to do is unscrew 3 screws to take the end cap off, and one bolt to slide the baffle out, then you can switch out to the 2 inch cores.

Having said that, the smallest baffle you should run with a catted headpipe is 2.5 inch, but I dont know if Fullsac offers that.

The catted head pipes really do not create a issue with flow as bad as it is stated. I have tuned plenty of bikes with stock head pipes and they can run well. The radiate heat well that is going to stay if the stock head pipe is still in use. I would not buy any slip on with a larger than 2.25 core as if you ever do swap the issue will be the muffler than. I have tuned bikes with 1.75 cores vs 2,25 and the power is within +/- 1-2 so that is not something to chase down.  Many good posts on muffler core size here. Good luck

GMR, how well will the Vance and Hines x pipe with their H.O. mufflers (they have a 3" core) with SEPRT otherwise stock bike, run. Will the lost of low end torque be noticeable.

Sorry to butt in, but was just going to add that when I switched to High Outputs, I immediately noticed a loss in low end when I pulled out of my driveway for the first time. They are coming off soon.

I just got my 2016 street glide CVO, had the Dealer put on Rush true duals with RC Excaliper slip on's. The dyno sheet shows about 100 +\-hp with 105 +\-ft lbs of torque. To cold to test ride it yet but will post when it warms up to 20 degrees or so and I can take it out. Sure sounds nice. Low rumble at idle but really livens up with you rev it up
