If given $10,000 towards new Harley, what would you buy?
« on: December 02, 2015, 07:55:08 PM »

I ask this question because I won a "New Harley". It turned out to be a 750 Street. At 6'4" and 300lbs the street was not an option. They gave me $10,000 credit towards a new Harley at a dealership of my choice instead. Could not take cash. Options 1- get street and sell. Option 2- put some cash with it and buy regular bagger. Or Option 3- put cash with, finance remainder and get my dream bike CVO Limited. Keep in mind I hate making payments. I guess you know what I did or I wouldn't be here. What would you do?

$10k is a nice downpayment. I'd have to use it towards another Shark. :2vrolijk_21:

At this point nothing really says buy me from the Moco.  So from the dealer I am presuming I would have work with I would strive to get a deal, buy a bike i know I could move, sell it and use the proceeds to do the things I wanted to a bike I already have.  If I couldnt get a deal I would just take the 750 sell it for what I could and begin on the mods.

Since I have a CVO King... and not really interested in another fairing bike at this time I think I'd use it towards a Softail Slim S... that thing has caught my eye lately with it's 110 looks fun

If someone gave me 10,000 on a Harley I would buy a 1200 Sportster. Fast bike fun to ride with having to spend a lot. And that would just about pay for it.

I would do exactly what you did!   Once you're at the top of the heep....everything else is back down. :bananarock:

Since I already have a CVO, and I'm not interested in buying another Harley in the near future, I would take the Street 750 and sell it.

OTOH, if I was going to buy, that $10K credit would be a nice chunk of change off the cost of a new Limited or RGU.  I just don't think the CVO premium is worth it anymore.  For the $12,000 and only 7 cubic inches difference, I would buy the non-CVO and spend about $2000 on upgrades, for a net savings of $10K.

Still, I'm glad I've had a CVO, so if I hadn't had one before, I probably would have done exactly what you did.  Enjoy the bike and welcome to this web site.

I'd put the 10K down on a new Breakout, sell the 03 Night Train and pay off the balance on the Breakout.  That would still allow me to have a fun bike for the 2 lane windy roads and the CVORK for the comfort rides.

That's a great question and glad you answered it in the manner that fit what you wanted.

The 750 Street wouldn't be easy to sell if given that option.  Of course one could take the 750 Street even paying sales tax and sell it at the expected loss still being ahead money wise with being given a new motorcycle.  While it wouldn't be $10,000, it would be cash in hand and no payments to do with as you wish.

Of course the $10,000 would be a nice down payment no matter what HD one would take.  If there was no expiration date on the $10K credit and nothing in the '16 lineup tickled your fancy, maybe wait until the '17s came out and see if the 120S was found in any of the CVO's.... :2vrolijk_21:

I guess if given the option and I still had my '12 SESG, I would put the $10K and trade it on what I'm currently riding, '15 SERGU.  If given the option and in the situation I'm in having already purchase a '15, I would consider a Super Glide.  I've always liked that ride... ;D

With NO EXPIRATION.....I'd stick to my current plan and replace the '12 with a '20.....maybe they'll have the 120 figured out by then.

Had to be done by October 1. But that would have been nice.

Nothing?  I think someone would buy it for some amount, and even after paying tax, I'd be money ahead.

If my only other choice is to use it as a credit toward a bike I don't want, and to make payments on that bike I don't want, I'd for sure sell it and take the money.
