FLHTCUSE2 mods and accessory questions
« on: January 26, 2007, 08:06:14 AM »

OK, now that I landed on the bike, I'll ask you all to help with the mod selection.  It appears all on board love to spend everyone elses bucks [smiley=pineapple.gif].  Here are a few initial questions that I have regarding the Jester.

1) Anyone have any experience with a removeable tour pack kit?  Is one available for these bikes?    (I guess I could search the HD site [smiley=nixweiss.gif])

2) What are your impressions with the stock speakers?  Have any of you upgraded them to something else, i.e. HawgTunes, etc.

3) I plan on doing the SERT, K & N filter, and slip ons (V & H, RH) due to the heat issues I have read about on this and other boards.  Should this be done immediately or do I need to break the bike in first.  How do you tune the bike and not do any damage to the engine if it is not broken in yet, i.e. at least 50 miles or at least 500 miles?

4) Rog has already provided a list of some of his recommended ads on another thread.  Anyone have any other "essentials" to get done at delivery?  (here is your chance to spend my money and make KentuckyHarleyDude rich ;D)

Thanks in advance.  There will be more questions forthcoming...

Yes you can make the tour pak detachable a couple of people here have done it.  It is a lot easier if you use the hawg wired stereo upgrade because you can get rid of the amp.  You could do just the hawg wired or hawg tunes speaker if you wanted.  As far as upgrading the motor I don't think I'd wait with all I here about how hot they run.  Just one guys ideas sure you will get lots of suggestions.

Yes, you can make the exhaust/AC mods before you pick the bike up.  As long as you get them to put the base "84" map in.  That will set the ECM up to recognize a freer breathing AC and mufflers.  I had the whole setup, including true duals, done before I picked it up.  My dealer told me that they do that more than anything else to new bikes for the customer.  No break-in issues, rode it the way they told me to ride it for the first 50, then 500, then had it dyno'd at 1K.  No discoloring of the rear jug's 110 badge and the bike runs cool (right now averaging about 215 for normal riding in about 60 degree ambient tempurature, heavy traffic (long periods of sitting around) around 255) and I'm still running Syn3 in the bike.  Hope this helps.
Cheers [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif],

Cobaltman...

The tourpak can be made detachable...there are a few threads on all the things needed to do that, but as was mentioned above, I would go with a different Amp setup if doing so.  Personally, I like the TP on all the time, just because it's more convenient to get in and out of when scooting around...you gotta have a place to put "stuff" and it's just easier to get in than the Bags, IMO...but, I have a passenger more often than not, so that makes a difference.

The speakers on the HK system are about as good as it gets right now for 2ohm speakers. There are some in testing now that will probably be better, but unless you change out the amps, speakers, etc, it's probably not worth changing only the speakers at this point in time. You might notice a bit more clarity at speed with the midrange tones, but it would not be a significant difference.  This was told to me by someone here on the site who knows what he's talking about, and not just my opinion.

Definitely have the SERT, Pipes, and SE "Roll Your Own" A/C done immediately.  You'll still be lean, but not dangerously lean, and when you get the 1K on it, have it fine tuned.

For looks, I think the Chrome Inner Primary is one of the most significant pieces you can add...it's also a lot easier to keep clean.  While you've got them in there doing that, and especially if you ever think you might want true duals, put a chrome starter on, and sell the takeoff on e-bay as new...you can recover about 1/2 the cost of the chrome version.

LED strip on the back of the tourpak from Custom Dynamics is a good looking piece and also a safety thing as well.  The dealer won't know what the hell you're talking about on that though, so just do that yourself.

I personally think the seat (comfort wise) sucks, but your butt will let you know about that soon enough...some people love it and never have any issues.  The Corbin was the best money I've spent on the bike.

Chrome headlight/aux light/turn signal trim pieces add a touch to the bike that looks nice, I think.  Visor or Plain..your choice.

Clearview Windshield...best money you'll spend on comfort.

There's more, but that will be a good start...

If You have not had a UC before or a CVO , I would suggest that ride it first and see just what you think you need to change before shooting at it in the dark.

Then You can really find out just what to spend your money on that makes it YOUR Ride.

Example - Listen to the Speakers before you change them out they sound different in person than on the internet.

Enjoy your New Ride

Chrome Inner                  60739-07
Temp Gauge                  75320-05
Lifter Blk Cover            18278-06
W/S molding                  59133-99
Brake Light Kit            69462-06
Rear Spk Trim                  74584-99
Front Spk Trim            74604-99
Radio Trim                  74612-06
Saddlebag Guard Bag            90955-97
Waterbottle Holder            91991-98
Oasis Day Cover            98717-06

This was my list.

I would [highlight]definitely[/highlight] have the dealer do the pipes / pc (sert) / a/c before delivery. If they are done before delivery the dealer will warranty the parts and it is included in the price of the bike instead of an add-on.

I had them also install the chrome inner primary and the oil tempature gauge. I wish I had done the chrome started at delivery to recoup some of the cost (can't sell it as new now).

The turn signal brake light kit and the LED brake light are also a must. This can be done yourself after delivery.

I also went with the visor trim rings on the lights. It needed it.

I hope this helps. This is only what I would have done differently hind sight being 20/20. AJ

I agree with the chrome starter if you go with true dauls just doesn't look right other wise IMO,  ask the dealer he may buy it back plus having it done on predelievry it will be cover by the 2yr warranty.

First thing and the most important is the pipes/air cleaner and the rest is where you want to go with it.

I'll definitley start with the pipes and SERT.  Too much concern over the heat issues not to do that.

Agree for the most part with what y'all are saying.

There are some things I definitely already know I want.  In addition to the pipes and SERT, I know I'll get the brake/turn signal conversion kit for sure.  I'll also do the visors for all of the lights.

As for the speakers, I'll let time tell on how well the sound is from the stock units.  I'm also going with the shorty ant.s for the radio and the CB.

As for the rest of the OCD, time will tell!!! ;D

The beautiful thing is that you get to do what you want to do....ITS YOURS !  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

The pipes, breather etc. I would do first because of the temp issues that most of us had.  After SERTing my bike up, I am running 30 degrees cooler....and that was in 40 degree weather...

Money well spent in my opinion..

HD just introduced detachable TourPak kit.  Here is a thread to this effect on this site.

http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1170193555

Despite this thread I am planing to go for a TourPak relocation kit by George Anderson (according to this site members the best there is).  The reason is that I use TP a lot to store staff I take with me even on short commutes + helmet etc. But I want to move TP back so that my missus has more space.

Despite the fact that I do not have my CVO yet I still went for HW speaker system with Amplifiers etc. I owned normal UCEG (not CVO) and hated the sound.  I love to listen to music though. I also went for J&M intercom speakers/mic kit to be able to listen to music in my helmet. Hated standard HD helmet speakers as well.

Enjoy your bike!
