2016 CVO Limited muffler feedback
« on: December 03, 2015, 08:34:51 PM »

Because of performance issues and inability to make reasonable use of intercomm and radio I am swapping out mufflers.  Replacements will be in-stock options from V&H or Cobra.  I want better sound over stock with solid low end performance.  If it were you, what would you go with and why?

Background:
Dealer installed Cobra Headers and CFR mufflers.  After 500 miles I have come to the conclusion that the CFRs are too loud for me.  Even with the upgrade 6.5 audio I can't hear the radio on secondary roads much less the highway.  Intercomm and music in the Harley headset mounted inside a 3/4 helmet is faint even with the volume all the way up.  More of an issue is the low end stutter.

The engine has a bad flat spot in the tune off idle.  Just as the clutch starts to grab it will hiccup and almost stall unless I baby it.  Second gear has a comparable albeit less stall-ish flat spot at about the same RPM.  Once moving the bike feels like its lugging in any gear unless RPMS are above 2800.

I understand the CFRs are hard to tune and the trade-off for their sound is reduced power in the low end.  I paid big bucks for a 110 with high torque from the 255 cams only to neuter it with the CFR mufflers.  I want to remedy that with sound loud enough to let others know I am around and have it sound worthy of a CVO but at the same time leave the radio and headsets as useful.

Thanks in advance.
