2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra Infotainment system audio pulsating
« on: December 07, 2015, 09:02:09 AM »

I am having a problem with my sound pulsating at high speeds. I have talked to different dealers and no one has had any reports of the problem.  Then I was looking for comparisons of different upgrades. At 6:20 on this J&M YouTube comparison it talks about the Boom Audio System pulsating. Has anyone else had this problem? The MOCO says there will be another upgrade in January.

Headsets (could be vox setting if using intercom) or speakers ( could be amp clipping at high volume)?

It happens with or without headsets. It's all stock, that's my problem with the MOCO. So if it is the amp or speakers I don't think a program update will help.

I have had the same issue the dealer said they were going to reflash the radio and if it didn't fix it they would replace it but I have also had issues with it just turning off or changing to fm or WB when riding down the road and it takes about 3 min to turn on when you start the bike up

They already reflashed mine. The other problems the dealer has heard about. J&M says it's the amp and speakers but, they have a dog in the fight, per the dealer.

If you haven't already, here are some suggestions that may help.

1. Make sure your software is 1.19.1.2 which is the latest version.
2. Turn CB off and / or check the squelch setting.  You could be picking up random transmissions.
3.  Pull the main fuse for 30 seconds to completely reboot system.

Good luck.

When amplifiers go into a clipping situation, it can blow the tweeters (clipping = lots of high frequency noise) and may give some strange sounds.  Another possibility is that the Automatic Volume Control (AVC) is changing the sound level, and there have been problems with the AVC function on infotainment systems.  This AVC problem may have been improved on the latest software.

I have to ask a question here: does the AVC use just the speed of the bike to control volume, or does it have a microphone (like my car system) to feed in the ambient sound level?  It could be a problem with the microphone, or a variance in the ambient sound level.  There's also the possibility the amplifier is overheating and/or defective.

I get the issue of pulsating volume every now and then.  Usually on a hot day, and usually after several hours of riding.

Dealer has not been able to replicate it.  I notice it more when using XM than using my iPod.  However it does happen on both.  My head unit has all updates.

Stopped into the Salt Lake City Dealership. They looked it up and said the MOCO is aware of it and SB fixed with the next update. It just makes me mad that we spend this much on a bike and the audio has been inplace for 3 years. They are just finding out about this problem. I don't think so.
