American Elites
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:34:07 PM »

Anyone running the elites yet and if so, How do you like them compared the the stock tires. I'm also curious if you need to change out the front tire as well or will an elite rear work with a 407 front

Ditto.  I bought a set at the Sturgis rally, after the stock tire wore out in the middle and started cupping really badly on the sides.  Only a couple of thousand on them so far but they are doing very nicely...

I'll be making a trip 'south-of-the-border' in the spring for new rubber. I'm thinking these are the way to go...at least for now. Looking forward to you 'ride-all-year' guys to let us know about  long term satisfaction.

I ran a set of these on my 06 street glide...all I can say is they are 100% better than the OEM tires I had 12000 miles on them and still had plenty of center tread left when I traded it for my bucket list CVO....I pull a trailer with my bike on long trips and I am not easy leaving the red lights OEM I only got 8000 if I was super lucky....I ride in a lot of rain in upstate NY and they did very well

Finally got to the point of replacing my front with the 130 70B 18 Elite. Been able to get around a 1000 miles on it the last couple weeks and it seems to be working well. Handles the rain grooves the state loves to put in the highways well. Got several miles through the twisties and feels good there also. Only thing I think I have noticed different than the Harley tire is the tread design may be a little more noisy as you lean the bike off the center of the tire to the edge. Could be my imagination too. Either way $150 for a tire vs the $200 for the HD tire I believe this will be a winner. Will know for sure in another 19,000 miles or so

I only got about 6500 miles on my rear. Not as good as the Michelin Commander 2.

Little less mileage than I would have hoped. Would really like to get close to the 10,000 mark

I think his tire isn't the same one you would be looking at using, so you can't make a direct comparison.  Unless he has a different bike that's not listed in his profile, he's running a 2000 FXR with a higher output engine.

Also need to consider average daily temperature (Louisiana) and weight of rider/passenger. I'm 300lb, wife 120lb, bike weighs 950lb+ and live near Houston. With my 2006 l only got 8000 miles on rear tires.

just picked up a set of the American elites, in the cvo 180/55-18, and 130/60-19 sizes.  I am right at 20k on the stock Harley dunlops, do have a good amount of tread left, but the cupping is bothering me enough to change them out.

looking forward to changing them out, unfortunately, the ride-on I ordered with them is backordered so have to wait a weeks or so on that.

also have to give good props to j&p.  amid all the negative press they've been receiving lately.  I ordered my tires day before yesterday and they arrived today.  minus the ride-on which is backordered by the manufacturer.  so that was a plus.  also, I missed the dosage calculator on the ride on website and discovered that I didn't order enough.  figured that since my 2 bottles haven't shipped, they could add the third one in.  sales rep said 'nope' cant do that, but he did give me a free shipping code so I could order it and still get the free shipping.

so far so good.  I've never ordered from them before, but I can see ordering from them again.

Sounds like you are loading the bike about the same as we do and I am sure not ready to talk about average temps...lol. After the mild winter we had here sure worried that summer may be a hot one.
