Saddlebag Holster
« on: December 15, 2015, 07:27:29 PM »

Ran across a holster on the web recently that I liked.  Browsing and found a Crossbreed Oahi holster that is backed by a flat leather with Velcro hook backing.  It sticks perfectly to the CVO saddlebag liner.  They also make a mag holder in the same line. I know its not as good as one on your belt but makes a nice storage or carry accessory.  Here's the link and pic with my Glock 30.

I politely ask you rethink storing a weapon in such an insecure method.......The best way is to keep the weapon is on your person so no one but you has control over it.  If you find that you enter many areas where weapons are prohibited then maybe something like the Harley Bagger Vault might work to securely store your weapon and your saddlebag at the same time.

The problem with off person storage is that on a bike you can't discreetly or quickly store or retrieve the weapon. In an emergency seconds count.

Agree on the vault for this reason: "Security being of the utmost importance, we designed the vault so that once installed, the entire side bag cannot be removed without first removing the vault itself."  I'd be too worried about someone breaking into the saddlebag and walking off with my firearm if it was in the holster.  Also, not sure about showing off the gun every time you open the bag for something.

I have been known to carry pistols in a saddlebag, but I tend to use a Maxpedition pouch or gun rug both in a rectangular shape to make it the least obvious possible that a pistol is in there. the buy who makes and sells the saddlebag contour bottom storage bags also make a saddlebag holster that is similiar to the  Crossbreed unit but it attaches with the saddlebag mounting twist pin. But point is both the crossbreed and the other one totally expose the pistol everytime you open the lid.
If someone did this and I saw it, would make me nervous so I assume other people feel the same. Also this does not qualify as concealed carry in any way so you need to be very careful who sees this and where you are.
Not a good idea to me.

Appreciate the concerns and opinions but this works for me when I cant keep it on my person.  TN is an open carry state but concealed is recommended.  That's why our permit is called a Handgun Carry Permit not a CCP.  I'll take comments for consideration.  I do keep my bags locked when not on the bike but know someone can steal most anything with enough time and effort.  This holster also works under tables or desks if the loop Velcro is installed.

Looks like it would work nicely on the side of my car console - while driving.  Then stash or re-holster concealed depending on location.

Going from concealed (on body) to bag storage while on a bike may cause problems in Texas - even though it's legal to carry concealed on a bike without a permit.  It's just like a car as far as carry goes.  As long as it's out of site while n a vehicle you are OK.  It's just more convenient to have the CHL, however.

Then again, that all changes in 16 days.   :bananarock:  Texas goes open carry -still have to have a permit, though.   :furious:

Some states would make it difficult for you to store a weapon in that method if you didn't have a concealed weapon permit. It also allows for mistakes by the owner in leaving the weapon in view and easy access for kids, mechanics, valets etc.
Best idea is to still have the weapon on the person and in their control 100% of the time. It needs to be in the same spot all the time so in an emergency you reach for it automatically and you don't have to flail around looking for the weapon's location of the day.....Hard to defend yourself with a love handle in your hand..... :huepfenlol2:

Have you considered the Milt Sparks VM2 holsters.  It allows the wearer to comfortably carry via the in waistband holster.  You also have the option to tuck a shirt in if you buy the clips for that.

I carry concealed.  But, getting a weapon out quickly while seated/strapped-in presents challenges.  It just looks like a decent way to keep it secured and handy while driving.

There's no way I would leave it in the car unsecured and/or visible!
