Cam change recommendation
« on: December 17, 2015, 09:59:50 AM »

110 with SE CNC heads, 10.5:1 SE pistons, SE-258 cams, SE adjustable pushrods, Rinehart true duals and K&N replacement filter.  Bike runs great but seems like the low and mid range is somewhat lacking due to the SE-258 cams.

What cams are recommended to get more low and mid range grunt but still have some left in the upper end of the RPM band?

Take a look at GMR's 577 cams. There are a few dyno charts in this thread http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=105440.msg1357452#msg1357452

I've got them in my Ultra and I love 'em!

That cam is not what one would call a low end style power band. I have a take out one that was installed in a 110 with the 10.5 pistons. It had a nice power curve from 3500+ but under that extremely soft and non responsive in a bagger. Many cams out there choose one that fits your ridind style , even if that means you have to wait and save a few bucks..  :2vrolijk_21:

The SE 258 really isn't a bagger cam, but more along the lines of what you might install in a lighter bike like a Dyna or Softail.  The SE 259 probably would have been a better choice, and it's the one Harley includes with their 103 race kit and 110 upgrade kit along with higher compression pistons.  It loses less down low than the 258 and still pulls well in the midrange and upper rpm range compared to the stock setup.  Of course the aftermarket has many similar choices that may be better (or not), I just offer this up for those who want to stick with a Harley cam for whatever reason.

GRC I built a few 103 in the in early bikes set at 10.7 comp ratio with the 257. In a light bike there where a top end monster.. With good heads shift point of 6500 was the normal as it would just keep pulling up top.. The 258 was like that just not as much top end.. That cam was passed over for the 257 most times..  :nixweiss:
