Getting something off my mind...
« on: December 31, 2015, 02:00:12 PM »

Yesterday was a bittersweet day for me and my wife. We sold our 2014 CVO Breakout. It was a difficult thing for us. Now I know most CVO owners just buy them because they can and not because they truly appreciate them for what they are. We were on a waiting list from September of 2012 until May of 2014 when we finally got our bike. The backstory goes like this... Back in October of 2010 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had surgery to remove it in February of 2011, we had to travel out of state to get the surgery and things went from bad to worse very quickly and in the process my wife and I lost everything we ever worked for. Fast forward to October of 2012 and my wife is diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin's B-cell Lymphoma and we were told if she didn't respond immediately to the chemotherapy she'd be dead in roughly 30 days. Needless to say we were just beside ourselves. Well thanks to the good Lord above and the excellent team at the Moffitt Cancer Center here in Tampa, she is in remission and every day gets them closer to calling her cured. The motorcycle meant so much to us as it was a way to get her out and clear her head about all the things she was going through and as most of you already know we met some of the best people out riding and have made some lifelong friends as a result. Most people just see the bike as a beautiful piece of machinery but to people like us who truly appreciated being able to own a CVO it was something much more. I read these forums and read the stories of what overpriced junk many think their CVO's are and yet these wallet rider's continue to purchase new ones just because they can, never truly appreciating them, it's just another way for them to show off and try to be better than the next guy and then there are people like me who truly appreciate being a CVO owner and having to watch someone else ride away on their CVO because they HAVE to sell it in order to obtain something else that they need and it is truly heartbreaking letting it go. The good news is that we are purchasing a new home and after losing our home because of our medical problems, we will make new memories and begin to rebuild our lives but, sadly the motor company doesn't repeat the CVO models with exception of the touring bikes and I'll never be able to get ours back and it would cost over $40K to turn a standard Breakout into anything even remotely as nice as my CVO. I know our won't matter to all the wallet riders but, I hope our story touches some ones heart that actually appreciates the fact that they were able to get a CVO because to many, a CVO is the ultimate Harley. I know the gentleman that bought ours appreciates it and will cherish the bike, maybe not as much as I did but, nonetheless, he too now has the crown jewel of Harley-Davidson's in his garage after many years of trying to get one. God bless all the riders out there and I hope everyone has a very happy, safe and blessed new year.

Won't address at all your perspective on other riders and their motivations for their own appreciation of or motivation for the bikes they ride.  Just wanted to say that it is great to read you are both healthy, still have each other and have so much yet to look forward to.

Who knows, a good used Breakout might even roll in front of you someday.

X8... It's amazing and a blessing how the bumps and accomplishments in the road of life can change your perspective and make you appreciate things more. Happy New Year to you and your wife.

Truly sorry about the loss of of your CVO, and glad both of your health has taken a turn for the better.

I took a little liberty and made a minor edit (SOME). I may be a little more optimistic than you and hope it is not most. Anyway, I highlighted something that you said that (even though I enjoy the website) I too have been annoyed about and have to agree with you. There are some on here that are continually complaining. Makes me think maybe the website should implement a "5 dollar penalty for whining", like that country song.
Take care, and I hope you can enjoy another bike in the future like you have in the past.

I really appreciate everyone's kind words and encouragement. I was really worried that many folks would take it too personally. I know that there are much more important things in life that motorcycles and that my wife and I are truly blessed to even be here today. I hope that everyone that reads will just stop for a minute and walk into their garage, see their beautiful motorcycle and appreciate it or just see it and have it put a smile on their face. I wish you all a very Happy New Year and I'll be back. Maybe not with a new CVO but, maybe a nice clean pre-owned CVO Breakout or maybe I will have to just get a standard Harley-Davidson and add my own touch but, I'll be back sooner than later. Thanks again for not beating me up over this post. God bless.
