New battery wont hold charge
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:29:06 PM »

I decided to replace my battery this Spring in my 2012 Ultra.  Since then, the new one and its replacement go dead.  The first one burned up my trickle charger.  2nd one is dead as well but trickle charge was not effected.  Ideas?

Recently (myself included) it would appear that the OEM (H-D) batteries aren't lasting as long as they should. After almost 8 years on the original battery I purchased another OEM (H-D) battery in 2012 only to have it go bad on me this fall (see this thread - Deka (Big Crank ETX 30L) vs AGM Duracell Ultra - Longevity/Reliability about what I replaced it with). Also another member had an OEM (H-D) battery go bad recently after a little over a year (see this thread - 1yr battery). When my battery went bad this fall I originally thought my Battery Tender had gone bad too (had owned/used it since 1999 figured it was time to replace it anyway) so I replaced it only to find out it made no difference since the battery was the problem.

FYI, if you are going to Bikeweek, or just going to be in Daytona, take your Battery Tender to the factory which is a short ride out International Speedway toward Deland and they will check it for free while you wait.
A few years ago they replaced one for me on the spot. They are on the right close to Deland airport.
Very nice people as well.
