Heated Grips
« on: January 13, 2016, 02:15:28 PM »

I'm wanting to put heated grips on my 14 SERK but all the ones I'm seeing on the HD site say not for CVO's. Wondering if one of you guys know whats up with that?
Thanks

I too have read posts about how poor Harley heated grips are and there are better choices. However I have had them on two bikes in the past 7 years. The ones on my 06 are still working as if they were new and the bike has 80,000 miles on it. The ones on my 09 stopped working and I thought oh crap the posts were right. Posted the issue and Cat Eyes (Jim) stepped up and said check the electrical connection in the throttle grip under the end cap. Well he was spot on, back in June I had the dealer replace my cruise switch and during that service the thing came unplugged. Took a needle nose pliers plugged it in and bang back like new.

So I'm back to why not Harley heated grips mine work great and when I had a problem the fix was simple. Good luck on your choice.

Mine worked fine for a couple years then started only working close to high when on low so I had Jim hddude install the Heat Demons. I like the little LED lights better than the twister on the end of the bars.

On my 13 SERK I had the heated grips that came on the 13 CVO ultra installed as they looked just like my factory grips but were heated.  They have worked flawlessly since and I had it done in Dec of 12.

I put the CVO Limited on my Street glide. It was plug and play and matched my existing grips.  Don't know if the road kings are pre-wired

Just ordered the same heated grips that were on the '11 CVO ultra. The '15 CVO street glide has the same harness and it is rumored to be plug and play after running the wires inside the bars........we'll see........

MJ, pre- and post- CAN bus bikes won't see shared harnesses.  Perhaps just the grip harness in the handlebars is the same that mates to a connector on either bike's harness?

Ok, just looked at the exploded views of the harness on a 15 CVO Street Glide.  No connection points marked specifically for heated groups.  One accessory power connector point forward on the harness that could be seen that might potentially be used.  But nothing you could see on the harness exploded views that made it obvious.  Perhaps something with the grips' own documentation saying where they connected would be the info to get you home?

I figured the pre and post CAN bus would be an issue so I asked.  According to the dealer lookup, the connector at the TBW sensor for the heat is the same on both years as well as the connector in the main harness at the bottom of the bars. They say that whatever connector the CVO Limited is using is on my bike as well.  We will see when I get them and get everything apart.....
