Question about my stock ECM and SERT ??
« on: January 29, 2007, 11:43:39 AM »

Anyone know if I can sell my stock ECM with the SERT/Software/Cables to someone else or will the ECM only work on my bike ?? I know the SERT marries itself to the ECM but I was not sure if the ECM could be sold WITH the SERT and used on another 07 touring model / CVO . Also, can the ECM be reset by a dealer to be used on another motorcycle if it is married to my existing vin # ?? Thanks in advance for any opinions / answers.

Copout,
I'm not positive, but I don't think the ECM is "married" to the VIN, like the SERT is married to one ECM.  You should be okay to sell it as a package.

I'd be interested once we confirm all the details about using it on a different '07 model besides the one it came off. I'd like to be totally sure first. What map is in it now? I'll be doing exhaust and PP A/C only. I saw you have RH and BS A/C done in your signature. Should be close, I assume. Thanks. Hoist! 8-)

Thanks Red,

If that is the case it would be a great package for someone who wants to purchase a SERT. This way they could have a non-modified ECM to put back on the bike in the event they want to return it back to stock form or take it in for Warranty work. I will just purchase a new ECM for my bike that is in stock form if I ever sell the bike without the mod's !!

It currently has map #84 loaded from the most current SERT software which is for a high flow A/C and race exhaust, 25 deg injectors, and 1800 cvo engine. I was using SE 98B slip on's with the high flow A/C all summer without any problems and the bike ran great.

That sounds like it would work with my set-up. Once we confirm the logistics of using it on another bike, and that it doesn't leave any traces on the second bike (I assume it wouldn't since the data is recorded in the ECM, right?), please PM me as to what you're asking for it. Thanks a lot CO. Hoist! 8-)

Howie,
In the words of Ed McMahan, "You are correct sir!!".  The info is kept in the ECM, unless there's a little hiding place in the down-tubes that I don't know about.   :-? ;)

Thanks Red. An extra pre-programmed SERT ECM sounds like a good alternative to the PC. Or a better back-up for the PC than the stock ECM. That would be a little pricy insurance though. Decisions, decisions! ;) Hoist! 8-)

Howie,
Now, you know I've got to ask this question.  Why would you want an ECM w/a SERT and also a PC on your factory ECM?  I'm getting confused here now [smiley=confused5.gif].  One would think, you'd put the ECM that's been SERT'd, on the bike and if something happens, you'd swap it out with the stock, non-SERT'd ECM.  If that's the case, why buy the PC then?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Help me!! I've fallen and I can't get up!!! [smiley=alcohol.gif]

copout, you may have posted this already and if you did please point me to it.  I see you have the Zippers Thundermax with Autotune.  Just curious how long you've had it and if it is the new version to use the automatic compression releases?  Does it work as it should?  Any problems at all with turn signals, security system, error codes being thrown, etc.?  I am interested in this but want to hear some good reports first.  Thanks!

The pre-programmed ECM would be a better alternative to the stock ECM fallback if a PC fails, albeit an expensive one. I would also consider this in lieu of the PC. I need to confirm what impact ECM switching has on the info it feeds back to the DT first. It would also be a good back-up for the TM AT, which I am definitely considering doing down the road. Just kinda thinking out loud here. ;) Hoist! 8-)

I have had the Autotune system for only four weeks and the current ECM is the older one that required me to bypass the ACR feature. Zippers just shipped my new ECM today which has the update for the ACR system to be utilized. I should have it by the end of this week and will re-initialize the ACR function. Overall, the bike starts, runs, and functions the same as with the stock ECM. The security system works the same, all of the electronics operate the same, etc. The only thing I have not been able to check is the self cancelling signals. However, I am not that concerned because I have been informed that they are no longer affected by the new ECM. When I initially installed the ECM I did have several trouble codes show up when I was doing the setup in the Zippers manual but cleared them and no more codes since then. I did speak with Bill and John at Zippers who informed me that the trouble codes during setup can sometimes occur but are nothing to worry about.
