Fullsac baffles sound like _______?
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:50:53 PM »

I'll be honest, I searched here and YouTube. You can't tell much from an Internet video.

I'm trying to understand what the fullsac 2 or 2.25 baffles sound like.

I had V&H HO slip ons on my last bike and have Titan 450s waiting for this one. I like the  deeper mellow tone.

I do NOT like the tone of rinehart slip-ons. Too raspy for me.

I happened to hear a bike with jackpot mufflers the other day- wasn't bad though it was inside.

So the question is- which is closer?  V&H or the big R?

Gonna be sinking some cash into the engine and not sure I want to waste it on the Titans if I can get similar sound and more performance from fullsac.

Thanks all.

I put 2 inch Fullsac baffles on my CVO in 2014, sounds deep and mellow, not to loud that your ears ring after riding all day. I had Vance and Hines on my last bike, and these are just a little softer than these. I like the way they sound.

Had V&H slip ons on my SERK and have Fullsac 2.0 on my SESG.  V&H were much louder.  The Fullsac 2.0 are a little louder than stock, but have that nice HD "potato, potato, potato..." sound.  The Fullsac's also have a good sound when you're excellerating quickly.  Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I like the mellower Fullsac sound...they're not obnoxious and I can here my tunes.

I have the jackpot head pipe and fullsac 2.0 CVO cores on my 110.  I like the sound, and so does the person I ride with most.  I do have other friends that don't like the sound however.   Can't post any sound clips though, as it's torn down for rebuilding.

Thanks for the replies guys - just wish I could hear the tone in person.  I'm assuming you know what I mean when I talk about the difference between V&H HO's and the Rineharts.

I've run the 2.0 Fullsacs but switched to Rinehart 4", which have a 2.25" baffles.

The Fullsac still has a nice sound which is similar to the Rinehart, but the best way to describe it is that the Fullsac's are a polite version of the Rineharts.

The Rineharts sound mean at idle, and I love hearing it when just sitting at a red light. You can tell when a car pulls up behind you, because the sound changes and sounds even better. The Fullsac's weren't nearly as aggressive sounding.

Nobody ever complains about riding behind me, and even non-riders say it sounds nice, so the point is they sound mean and aggressive without being obnoxious. The tone isn't high pitched, but is also not too deep that it makes a droning sound.

Sometimes 2 up under load they sound a bit much, but I bought the Fullsac screens and put a single layer Dynamat wrap (the thinner one) with the screens, and that toned it down a bit without changing the sound too much. The Rineharts don't come with any baffle material. I've since taken the baffle wrap back out, but I always have the option of easily putting them back in if doing a long trip. Very versatile like that.

I had V&H Ovals on my '08 SERK and liked the sound at idle, but they were a bit too loud for me and the wife.

When I bought the '09 SERG, I went with the TTS from Fullsac with their dyno proven map and their 2" baffles.  I rode with them for four years and loved them.  The sound was aggressive on the throttle, but would quiet down on the road and easily listen to my tunes without any issues.

Then two years ago my wife heard another slightly louder bike and asked if our could be just a bit louder.  I found a used set of 2.5" Fullsac baffles, I don't think they make the 2.5" anymore.  I put them right in, about 10 minutes to swap them out.  The sound on idle increased and the bark was a bit more on throttle.  But again at highway speeds, it's still very enjoyable to listen to our tunes without the amp wide open.

Some say the 2.5" will kill your performance, but to be honest, I've not noticed any drop in power or gas mileage.

My suggestion would easily be the 2.25" baffles.  They say the most power is made with the 2" ones though.  I guess that would be for standard cruising etc.  If you're hot dogging all the time and hitting your rev limiter, the larger baffles may give you a bit more top end hp.

I agree, the Rinehart's are a bit too metallic sounding for me.  Kind of like Flowmaster mufflers on cars, not a fan of them...

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the response. Everything I hear and read points to "right between the two"

I've had both and liked the Fullsac 2.25 better. The main difference I found was off load (throttle). The 2.25 still had some bark but were reasonable cruising the V&H were loud all the time. On throttle the Fullsac were loud and throaty and the V&H loud and a little hard on the ears! Just my 2 cents. Everyone that ever rode behind me that commented always liked the 2.25.

I like my Fulsac 1.75 baffles without reservation. I put them in at 5900 miles, and now I have 22,700 miles on my bike so that means they have been in for 16,800. When I installed them I reinstalled the  original packing. At first they were a little quiet just barely louder than stock. However, they have become a little more pronounced as the packing is wearing out and truthfully the more miles the better they sound. No barking at all, nice mellow idle and cruising, and when you crank it the sound is pure Harley.  My bike sits a lot as you can see by the low mileage because I mostly use it for long trips,(plus I lost a year of riding due to back surgery)  and over the years I have noticed that on a three thousand mile trip I would not be happy with pipes that are much louder than what I have. I hope this helps someone who is trying to make a decision. Don't buy pipes or mufflers just because of the name or that they cost a lot. CAHDBIKER

Agree!
My  mufflers with 1.75 cores have been on my last 3 bikes, I have replaced the packing twice and they still sound nice.
My other bike has 2" cores (bigger motor) and also sounds good but a bit louder.
Like you, I use my 2014 for long hauls and the other ones for short runs.
Best of both worlds and I don't have to use ear plugs and can hear my tunes.

Thanks for the thoughts guys!

I may buy a set of 2" ballfles for my stock cans and try them eventually.  Possibly swap them on for a long trip.

Not sure how much they'd affect the tune.

Well bad news, the dealer got impatient and put the Titan 450s on the bike last week. They look awesome and sound better. Sounds like they'll be sticking around.
