Cam suggestions for upcoming work/dyno
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:18:41 PM »

In a few weeks I am getting some work done to my bike. Fullsac DX, Crusher exhaust and a dyno tune. While it's in the shop, I am considering cams. I've heard the 255's top out a little early as far as the power potential, but can't say I've been disappointed with them up until now. I really enjoy low end, but at the same time, tend to ride more like a sport bike rider on some of the curvy country roads around here. Its hard to pin down my riding "style".

Is there a decent "all around" cam you guys would recommend that would go well with the work I'm getting done? The Kuryakyn 24 seems popular.

Thank you!

Just the cam. The guy doing the work recommended that without upping compression, the Cycle-Rama 575 would be a good choice. I will get his input also, but can anyone make a comparison, the 255 vs. the CR 575? Would like to hear some thoughts from other owners.

Thank you!

Torque is relatively the same, but the HP will come up approx 7.    Typical builds are seeing the change bring 96-102 hp / 110-118 torque depending on pipe, air cleaner

Basing that on initially starting from 93 hp/ 105 torque

Of the belief that the 24d or one of the similar cams is a better bang for the buck on the 110

Thank you, this will be with Fullsac DX, Crusher Exhaust, the SE Agitator air cleaner.

The Agitator air cleaner comes matched with a 50mm opening.

If you plan to go with a larger 58mm throttlebody, you may want to purchase the 58mm backing plate which is sold separately in the SE Catalog, so that you arent matching a 58mm throttlebody to a 50 mm backing plate opening.   You may also consider the larger 5.39 injectors so you arent pushing the duty cycle of the stock injectors.

Thanks again, for now at least I would be sticking with what's listed. Originally, I was just getting the DX pipe with a dyno tune, then I added exhaust, now considering cams and new lifters which inevitably would require pushrods.......................I gotta slow down at some point  8)

Well if your going to tune now is the time to do the throttle body and backplate.  Do it and be done.    Yes I get stopping but in this case if you do cams you should consider this

if you own the air cleaner already it can be bore to 58 mm as well. We have many customers that really like the oval stock air cleaner and we bore the backing plate. Just an option but make sure you do have the correct opening  :2vrolijk_21: The T/B is a nice upgrade and if you are tuning UB is correct now is the time.

I'm going to Sheffer performance HD in Evansville. I think most know Daren as "Durwood".

I talked to him today, and decided I will do the DX, exhaust, upgrade lifters, and the tune. He said the 575 cams wouldn't be an extremely drastic change and for what I'm wanting, this will be a nice setup that will run good. The bike is already much quicker than anything I've ever had. I think the tasteful upgrades with a good tune will be practical for what I'm wanting. My cruiser friends already can't keep up with me how it is  8)

Good to hear, leaving here in about an hour to run my bike down. I met Daren last weekend at an expo, very nice guy. I'm pretty damned excited to get the work done!
