Everything a 110?
« on: January 25, 2016, 02:26:21 AM »

Hi Everyone, I was in my local dealer today, Simi Valley Harley, looking at Dyna Lowriders. I was speaking to the parts guy and told him I would consider one of those for later on in life as long as it had a 110 cu. inch. engine. He said pretty soon all the full size bikes are going to have 110s. Anybody else heard this? I mean they have them already in several softails so why not. CAHDBIKER

Hadn't heard this, but wouldn't surprise me.  You probably remember the discussions how the Dynas and Softails need something to create more excitement, so this could be it.  The new drop-in 117" kit then gives the dealers a way to do more selling after the sale, and with the 120" street motor available, HD just needs to bring out a wet-head 120 for the CVOs to keep them on a higher level.  So yeah, that makes sense to boost everything to 110.

The question is not if, but when. I'm GUESSING 2019. MOCO likes to save major changes for one year after anniversary years.

That parts guy doesn't know anymore than anyone else regarding what HD is planning. If HD is going with a bigger engine, we'll know as soon as the MoCo wants us to know.

But, I agree.  Based on HD's engine history (and Indian's standard engine being a 111) it's about time for a displacement bump.

I would prefer they fix the problems the current engine has before creating something bigger! :orange:

I am with you on that one Lew. My lifters still tick at 3k RPM, and since I extended my warranty I will leave it the way it is since my oil consumption is so minimal it is really not worth mentioning. If the engine blows one day I guess I will get a new engine under warranty. One more thing. I asked the salesman how the bikes were moving. He said pretty good, however their is a lot of inventory in the store that was in the exact same spot 6 weeks ago. I think that is a sign that sales are down. It speaks for itself since we can ride here all year. CAHDBIKER

I wouldn't buy another bike with a 110...too many problems.  I hope this doesn't become the default engine for non-CVOs.  It's funny, HD sales staff seem to always tell us sales are good, even though we know they are not.
