End of an era? HD introduces third non-CVO with SE 110 engine.
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:31:52 AM »

Now we have the 2016 mid-year Dyna Low Rider S along with two other non CVO bikes sporting Screamin' Eagle 110 engines. The Low Rider S has a rubber mounted engine, so without the counter balanced B engine it should be faster than the new 2016 CVO Pro Street Breakout. IMHO it signals the end of an era with the 110 engine in CVOs. And with the new 117 bolt in kit, I'm thinking the maybe a 124 might be coming in a few years.

It is nice seeing them sharing the pain around  :D

It will be good for the dealer's service department.

All part of the 'continuous improvement' process. Now that Indian has had their 111ci motor out, it would seem that the MoCo has to ensure at least parity, if not dominance, in engine size. Add the fact that the 110 engine is a matured production run, moving on to the next better technical development makes sense.

I think the decision to move to the wet head design was a precursor to being able to build larger motors and keep the heat issue manageable. The 117ci and 120ci designs are reaching a point where they may enter the production cycle on a limited-run basis, with the 124ci a few years down the line.

Charles, you're right--although you wouldn't hear it from them.

h.d. is in a desperate time. look at the stock price. indian is real and here to compete. of,course they have been in this situation before and endured. i think they understand the challenge. we could see some interesting changes in hd engines soon.

This is good. Nothing beats stiff competition to ensure quality products.

Off the subject, but when I saw that, I busted out laughing!  'Member when Mark Martin drove the Viagra car?  It came out of the Truck with "Stiff Competition" on the spoiler, but I think NASCAR made them take it off.  :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: Later--HUBBARD

And for ABOUT $16K for Low Rider "S". You are getting a lot MORE bike then a stock bike.
They do look good!

(And maybe more problems too!  :o )

Have you guys seen the inverted front folks on the Breakout "S"?
Very nice!

And with the 110A engine they will really rip! Light bike, rubber mounted engine. I think that comes to an additional 10 ft. tq. without the counter balanced B engine.

Well, I am thankful.. Don't get me wrong.  These are still nothing but retreads when it come to new designs, etc..  But if it took Indian to finally make HD get off their a$$, then yeah... THANK YOU.

IMHO the Twin Cam engine is being pushed to its limits by HD at 110". The Indian 111" engine is a TRIPLE cam engine alleviating some of the valve train stresses causing so many issues in the HD 110".... Even S&S has been offering their X-Wedge triple cam 117" and larger for a while now.

Instead of just bumping up the displacement I would like to see a redesign of the engine to a triple or, - heaven forbid - a quad cam, to help eliminate some of the failures of cams, lifters and other valve train components. A side benefit would also be a quieter engine.

However, I figure there won't be any changes like that coming any time soon...
