Oil pump, cam plate, valve springs
« on: February 10, 2016, 09:17:58 AM »

2011 fltruse, put in woods tw-7 cams, adjustable pushrods and lifters last summer, noisy, thinking about changing out valve springs and having the screaming eagle oil pump and cam plate installed. I know this won't help with noisy cams, but wondering if I should keep going and do the 117 kit or leave everything as is. Got some cash burning a hole in my wallet.

My question would be why you chose those components to change, and what you think you will accomplish by changing them.  Unless the current oil pump and cam plate are worn, a new pump and plate is money wasted.  Changing the valve springs won't help your noise issue, but might have a beneficial effect on wear and tear of the other components like the lifters, depending on what springs you install.  Have you changed the lifters yet?  Those are the parts that would be first on my list with a 2011-2012 CVO, to try to avoid the lifter roller failures that have plagued those bikes.

Btw, a Woods TW7H cam is a noisy cam no matter what the other components are.  I'm speaking from direct personal experience.

Yep put in different lifters already, the valve springs and pump and plate suggestions came from a mechanic, said he would go that route for longevity, think he just don't like the way the cam noise is. I knew they would be noisy, they work well just hate the rattling. Guess I will just ride it.

I would look at the plate before saying keep it.   You may find it grooved on the top half 180 degrees where the oil pump gear has eatten into it.   I would check it then decide to go from there.    No replacement for displacement.   Thus far have seen too many issues with the piston slap of the 110 and out of round cylinders etc.  The new 117 might just the answer with the change in liners etc.

Bigger oil pump the better?
Hint
It takes more power to run and creates more sump oil  to scavenge plus sends more over bypass which = more heat

I put one on mine, or actually had Fuel Moto do it when they built the motor. Looks good through the Roland Sands clarity cover. The S&S one looks nice too. Pretty much looks though, and if you put the stock cam cover back on no one will ever see it.

I have an old build. Zippers 107, 2001 Serg all the good stuff at the time. SE cam plate etc.. Rattles like hell. Changed the lifters to s&s no change. My 657 cam is just a noise machine. The upside is it goes like stink. Good luck
