Cirius LED Engine Guard Lights
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:58:28 PM »

Was looking for something to improve daytime visibility.  They are really bright and you would not even know they are there unless you pointed them out when they are off.  Contoured with the guard.  Have not driven at night with them so I don't know how much extra they add down the road.

A toast to you from a neighbor to the west.  :drink:

I've been looking at these off and on for several months.  The installation looks ticklish, but straight forward.  My question is about the wiring.  How did you accomplish it?  Did you run it through the engine guard tube?  If so, how did you get the wires out again and to your switch - wherever you put that?  It would be interesting to know how the lights look from a hundred yards (or 91.44 meters for y'all on the east side of the lake) down the road.  Enquiring minds, etc.

They look nice, not sure how you could ever adjust the beam of light though once mounted?
For improving daytime visibility I prefer the Motolight because they move up and down with lower fork legs and also side to side so other drivers see them. They are also farther from the headlights so the "triangle of light is greater. Just my opinion though.
I do like the slimline look of above lights.

And likely because of this I notice in the fine print......... " Unless otherwise noted, all items are NOT DOT approved and are only for off road or show use.

Use of these products may be limited, regulated, or prohibited in your state, province/territory please check with all applicable motor vehicle code and laws before installing
"

But they do look good  :2vrolijk_21:

Definitely a nice looking addition. At only 300 lumen I wouldn't think you'd be breaking too many laws or blinding folks.

Williamsburg!  Man that is beautiful riding country.  Was up your way last fall to do the tunnel of trees plus 2 other days of riding the area.  I did not do the install and had them done down here by a bike shop recommended by Larry at Cirius.  They brought the wires through the tubes and out the centre top of the tube.  I had purchased and had them install the Harley Auxiliary Fairing Switch Kit as well so they are wired on one of the switches on the dash.  I think it was on YouTube that I seen a guy use grass trimmer line that he ran through the tube and then tied off the wires and did the pull.  Never would have thought of using that material but it worked well.
I had Motolights on my 2010 CVO Ultra and they are second to none in my opinion but I am in to these installed for 50% less then Motolights, Harley Passing lights or HD fog lights.  I do almost no nighttime riding.
After 31yrs in law enforcement I lost count of the crashes I went too where the first words out of the drivers mouth of the car was I just didn't see the motorcycle.  Studies has conclusively shown that lighting is an attention grabber and this is also the reason that for years now all new vehicles in Canada must have daytime running lights.
Cheers

Agree on that and @Germany we also must have the daytime running lights. I do have on my RK the Custom Dynamics Ringz which are absolutly bright! http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/dynamic-ringz.jpg

300 lumens? Pretty weak. I have a single battery flashlight that is 1000 Lumens. I saw a set of these last saturday on a jap bike at a resturant, they are noticeable because of the location, but I really think @ night with the headlamps on they would be a non-factor and from a short distance away would be overshadowed completely by the headlmap and definitely not worth $200.00, IMHO.
To only provide 300 lumens, total, the quality of the LED's must be pretty low.

Thanks for the info and the picture.  It answers my questions.

You're right, we live in a pretty nice area.  I did spend a fair amount of time riding in your country last summer, but a bit farther west.  BC, AB, SK, YT, and NWT.  Got as far north as Yellowknife.  Interesting town.  You can ride north until you run out of pavement (about 50KM) or you can ride south.  Over the years I've been privileged to ride in all 10 provinces and two of the three territories.  Haven't made it to "Noneofit".  Don't think either the bike or I are up to it.

I agree with your comments about visibility.  Too many people just don't look and the more conspicuous I can make myself the better.  Jury's still out as to which auxiliary lights to install, but there are still a couple months before the snow melts and the salt is washed off the roads.  Should be able to come up with something by then.

Thanks again for your help.
