Actually you might want to consider adding Toyhaulers to this category I would venture to guess you have more people on this forum using those than tow behind motorcycle trailers... :soapbox:

I got ya some info on Lance camping stuff, Lance Campers started out building pick up truck campers on Vineland bl in North Hollywood Ca Probably late 60s early 70s, in the early 70s my parents bought a camper there and I heard someone asking for Mr Mertes, well he came by to consummate the deal and I asked if he was from my town and had a son named Anthony and as it turned out he did, was a friends Dad and the owner of Lance campers, they were a peanut then but made it really big. gonna look for the wagon you speak of. P.S. ther camper was rather plush for 1972 standards.

Not surprised to see there in Lancaster Ca, close to where they started, toy haulers fits well as Anthony Mertes was a Motocrossin nut like the rest of us back then. I'd bet probably an ok product, though from my experience construction of all those trailers is kinda chinsey.

I agree to a certain extent regarding poor quality but these seem pretty well built all things considered.  They should be since they retail for 60k for a 26' trailer ( not many used ones around close by).

yup the materials are cheap, but whats to look for is that the screws and fasteners found there target, we have a keystone toy box that has a few embarrassing areas where screws are through the wall into the air next too the wood they were supposed to find. Anthony was a quality guy from a quality family, I'd bet they are one of the better made trailers, if still owned by the Mertes family [pronounced mer-tez].

Oddly enough when I started really looking them over I was disappointed that the tie down mounts they used self taping screws into the frame on the Lance.  My previous toy hauler had those and luckly when one of the tiedowns broke it was during the tying process.  What happened was the underside beneath the hauler the screws rusted and would easily snap off. I went ahead and replaced them all with stainless bolt through.
I sold that trailer now I'm looking at several and its one of the things I check.  I believe Keystone Fuzion through bolts and may even weld to the frame at least on the 5th wheels which I really kinda want a pull behind.  I also have been looking at the new Winnebago Spyder it might be the ticket they through bolt to the frame and have a 5000 lbs rating vs Lance with a small 2500 lbs rating.  I would still consider the Lance if the tie down locations had easy access so i could through bolt I emailed the factory but they never got back to me to let me know and the dealers don't really know.  So maybe it'll be the Winnebago...
