Just Returned from Winter Dealer Show
« on: February 01, 2007, 08:23:06 AM »

For What its Worth

I just returned from the Orlando dealers meeting and thought I might share a little of what was said... due to U.S. Dealer complaints according to the MoCo they realize that they have over produced CVO's AND regular inverntory bikes from 2003 thru 2007...they made a verbal commentment to every dealer at the show that the numbers of production will be trimmed back significantly and would be in numbers of around the pre 03 production volume for the U.S. they will however be sending a lot of bikes over seas as the market in Australia and Korea are booming...this is what we were told so take it for what its worth ...I think they mean business because due in no small part to the Dealers Association raising so much concern over standing inventory...they went on to say we would start seeing results very soon  .... we also got to see the new Nightster 1200 Sportster and if you guy's have NOT seen it on the net yet it is KILLER ...ive been riding 43 years and have long since left the Sportster BUT this bike makes me want another one MAN OH MAN it is soooooooooo cool ...

For what it's worth

As long as MSRP or less is the price then inventory reduction is fine.

Yes, if you read between the lines...

...they made a verbal commentment to every dealer at the show that the numbers of production will be trimmed back significantly

A strike should do that nicely.

...they went on to say we would start seeing results very soon  ....

And it sounds like the strike will start pretty soon.

That could also mean that those of us already astride a newer bike, especially a CVO, they would hold their values even better than before.  That's not all bad.

I guess the MoCo has Finally Noticed that Supply has Exceeded Demand

Three to Four Years to Notice the Trend, I'm thinking the Sales & Marketing Departments have been working Overtime to Figure this Situation out.
Geez those two departments really deserve the big bonus they are earning. Good Job  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

KyHD,
Thanks for the info.  That's interesting that they are finally admitting that they over-produced and are cutting back.  I've looked back on the amount of CVOs they've been producing each year and it's climbed steadily to the point that I was wondering if they would still be considered limited or exclusive editions, or just HD's way of coming out with a "Lexus" line of motorcycles.  We pay a premium price for that exclusivity, I'm glad to see that they are going to cut back.  That makes ours worth more in the long run.

Cheers [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif],

You guy's are right about the strike and it was as of today in the York Plant where the Softails and Touring bikes are built ....according to my source they expect to clear this up quick but as you know when it comes to the Union and Company you just never know what to expect ..I will do my best to keep you guy's up to snuff on whars going on as soon as I know anything offically ..... it would appear that if this is an extended work stopage that these two models will again become prime merchandise.

Cutting production is a great thing for dealers since they will be able to keep prices high. I hope it is not used as an excuse to raise the "Fair market adjustments" to the bikes and drive the prices even higher since they will be "even more rare and limited" and the strike may be the thing the MOCO needed to put a positive spin on by saying we planned to slow production.
Lower production numbers is great if they actually use the time available to do more quality control and product testing.  8-)
Or how about creating a system like car dealers and some bike companies where you can sit down at a computer at the dealers and custom build your bike exactly the way you want it and not have a stockpile of parts at home and pay more labor to have the new parts installed? Then parts inventory at the factory could be determined by the advance orders.
Some of us waited 6 months or more under the fast production levels I would hate to see how long it takes to get a CVO with slower production after the strike.

Supply and demand ...the great American way  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Bubba

My point exactly! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

On this great site no matter what kind of supply someone has, if it's over priced then members of this site will help you find what your looking for!
Now that's "The American Way".
And sometimes even the overpriced dealers reduce their price when members of this site call B/S on B/S! That's the power of this site.

Bubba keep up the good work and keep us informed on the strike!
