Last month I ordered an item from Amazon and had it shipped by UPS.  While tracking the package, UPS shipped it to my local Post Office and my Postal Carrier make the final delivery.

Last week I ordered another item and had it shipped by FedEx and they are doing the same thing.

I really don't care except that once the package gets to the Post Office you lose the ability to track the package.  This package has been at my post office for the last four days.

I'm sure this is cost saving for someone....but the UPS and FedEx trucks drive by my house everyday.

Is this happening to anyone else?

It's becoming a common thing.  I first saw it about a year or two ago, can't remember exactly, and this past year I'm seeing it a lot more.  I assumed that as the UPS and FedEx folks got bigger they found it more difficult and expensive to perform that last step of actually delivering to the door.  But like you, I see a UPS truck in my neighborhood almost every weekday (some neighbors work from home), so it's obviously not a system they've fine tuned.  It does make sense for those routes in rural or other areas with few deliveries per square mile to have the folks who have to drive by six days a week anyway do the final delivery.  At the same time, the USPS welcomes the additional revenue.  In fact, around my area the USPS actually makes package deliveries on Sundays to generate more revenue.

I also don't like the fact that the final leg of the journey isn't tracked, and that the process usually adds a day or two to the delivery time, but since I always opt for the free shipping I guess I can't gripe too much.  Now if they started doing that to stuff when I paid extra for premium shipping, I would be ticked.  On a positive note, my local mail carrier is excellent and he always delivers the package to the door and rings the bell.  The UPS guy on the other hand is too lazy to climb the two steps on my porch and walk over to the front door to push the doorbell button.

UPS "Smart Post", sends the UPS truck that goes past my house every day(we have a hoarder neighbor), to the post office who then holds my package till tomorrow before delivering to me.

I ordered a bag of Dog food from Amazon on a Thurs night. Seller was located in Az and I'm in NC. Sunday morning about 10am a US Mail cargo/utility stepvan pulled into my drive and I asked the driver what was she working on Sunday for. She said it came to us Sat by FedX and we have 24hrs to deliver. BTW: It was a 14lb bag of dry dog food shipped free to me by Amazon Prime. It cost $14.59...........wonder why our postal system is going broke. I live 9 miles from a small town PO out in the country!!!!

I'm constantly confused when trying to figure shipping. You'd think I would learn , but not me.
I needed to ship a TourPak and I guessed 30 bucks but I turned out wrong. Prices were spread wide (I think because of the physical size of the box).
FedEx, 65.00
UPS,    84.00
Postal,  123.00!!!!!!!!

I can't explain it.
When pricing international , though, postal can be waaaaaay cheaper.

We have multiple UPS, Fed Ex and just about every other deliver service come here several times a day but I've still received things by mail that indicated UPS.  And I share in the frustration of not being able to track once they get in the hands of USPS.

I'm not aware of any deliveries with this system in our area. I receive frequent deliveries via UPS/Fed Ex and have never seen any 3rd party delivery at home or our office.

I use Amazon Prime constantly and receive many shipments that start out as UPS and transfer to USPS and they are never late.

I assume they aren't late because Amazon promises two day shipping with Prime.  If you were to just opt for the free shipping option (5-7 days usually), you would likely find that the transfer from UPS to USPS would add at least one day versus UPS just making the delivery themselves.  At least that's what I've experienced.

I understand how this works and my company leverages the USPS option as well when shipping. There is a cost savings and this option is used based on the days to deliver. Usually the USPS routed boxes are routed from the FedEx distribution center to the USPS distribute center via the larger trucks not the smaller deliver trucks. Normally you receive a tracking number that should work in both systems (usually this is the USPS number since it is assigned up front by the shipper). Worst case if you call FedEx they can look it up for you.

I hope so cause you really pay a premium for the Klock Werks Flare when you compare it to the Freedom and Long Ride Shields.

I've also noticed that Amazon now has delivery vans that have their name on the side.
