Security System Pager Yea or Nay
« on: February 21, 2016, 09:08:48 AM »

Looking to get the pager for my security system (2015 FLTRUSE), HD offers a battery version and a rechargable I can't find aftermarket.  Seeing a lot of mixed reviews any thought or experiance with these.  Looking to use when we travel, at hotels.

I have the Smart Security System II w/the battery powered pager on my bike. It is a nice additional feature for security purposes (especially when you travel or your bike is out of direct sight when parked). No experience w/the rechargeable pager so can't speak to that, but the battery powered one uses a CR2450 battery which can be easily found/purchased (I usually replace annually). With the rechargeable one (not knowing how long a charge will last) you might have to carry the charger with you when traveling.

Before you purchase the pager (looking at the specs on the MoCo website) it looks like your bike came standard with the H-D® Smart Security System with Hands-Free Fob and for the pager to work (communicate/receive a signal from the alarm system) you will need to purchase the Smart Siren II Security System-68328-06A (notice the antenna attached to this system).

Just like any radio frequency signal there will be limits (distance and barriers) that could interfere with signal/signal strength and how/if it will reach the pager.

As fired00d mentioned, unless something changed very recently the "factory security system" that comes with the bike won't work with the pager.  I couldn't tell from your post is you knew that or not.

Thanks for the input.  My bike came with the security and siren, sound like my best bet is to stop at the HD dealer and see what I'll need.

According to the parts look up for your bike (see attachment: 12 68958-07C SIREN (DOMESTIC)) you will need to upgrade to the Smart Siren II that was mentioned above.

I have never bothered to get it.  My bike usually spends 20~30 nights a year at various hotels around the country.  Its in a couple rally a year, Sturgis or Daytona and others.  I have the factory alarm.  If that's not good enough I have insurance.  I am sure I would often be out of range of the pager.

For once, I totally agree with Dave. I pay my insurance AND (recently retiring from insurance company) if someone steals my bike/car/boat.. I do not want it back (or even found). Give me the money to replace it and I will, I do not want burned up clutch, overheated engine etc, or anything else that takes awhile to find.
Just steal it and keep it!

I do agree with you guys (Dave and Don) as far as the insurance goes, the part that wouls suck is being in the middle of Kansas (nothing wrong with Kansas just a long way from my home) and my bike gone.  I know it's no guarantee  "If they want it they'll get it".

While I agree with the long way from home.  I live in East TN, have ridden to CA, OR, WA last year.  Surgis many years, Key West Many years, Upper Pensisula MI many years.  Many very remote areas.

Still figure if it is stolen, I will rent a car or hop a flight home.  I do not want a stolen vehicle back.

I had the pager added to my FLHRSE3, I ain't bothered with it since then. It did work, but very limited range. Glad the bike and the pager is gone.  :confused5:

Imagine being in the middle of Kansas, walking down the moon litt road, nothing but your helmet on and your woman by your side, when all the sudden she says. There ain't  nothing but corn stalks here. Not evan YOUR BIKE.

I have the pager on my 08 FLHTCU and found the range to be very minimal. Plus it was another big hunk of plastic to carry around in my pocket that I didn't care for.
The pager now just sits in the cabinet doing nothing.
