I know at least one person on this site has cut the taps off top and bottom (top tap has the sticker on it) to expose more of the element. Probably helps a little. Some like the look.

I only actually took one picture of the cut cover but for those interested in the extended filter, here's an idea of how wide it is.

You really need extensions for  he floorboards because of how wide it is. No matter for me, I prefer the wider 'boards.

Damn!  The width of the air filter looks awesome.  Not sure if its mentioned already but is there any perceivable gains going to such a thick air filter?  My legs already touch the OEM sized one...not sure if I want to ride bow legged. LOL

I had them play with it a little when they tuned mine.  I know it did affect the tune and ultimately was worth one or two HP but that's with a 117.  On a stock 110 I can't imagine it's worth much.  I just wanted to be different.

We bore the stock backing plate for the 58 and larger t/b . Simple to do and very cost effective .

So are you boring it exactly to  58 mm?

No.  You bore to match the in let if the TB.   The inlets to the 50's are about 58mm already.  The inlet of the 58's are roughly 64mm.

I am aware this is an older thread, but I am looking to source one of the taller/thicker elements for a Ventilator.
Could you possibly share where you acquired yours, or possibly a brand and part number?

Give  Tilley HD Salisbury, NC.  a call. the service manager is who to talk to. 704 638 6044,  I run one of these myself and no I do not need to shim anything out. not that tall a person at all.  my leg barely  touch this  unit. as a rule normal riding I never notice  A/C being there. now if I tuck in for a high blast I will get my knee area into the unit. but no big dal to me at all if it was it would be in my parts bin.. I am not sure it flows as good as what I took off but it may..
