117 ci question)
« on: March 02, 2016, 09:39:46 AM »

I'm in the process of building a 117 & I'm second guessing my cam selection. I have a 58mm tb , Hpi inj, RB 2-1,Aim Vp clutch, Heads are at the machine shop with Tb for match porting S&S 570g cams. I'm not chasing numbers & I don't want to listen to the noise of Woods 8's ( been there done that)  I love the TQ of the 570's in my 110 & $$ isn't really a concern of maintaining the cams with this build. As a 110 it made 115.4 hp & 121.8 tq SAE so I assumed ( that's why I'm asking) will this bottleneck my build or maintain the tractor feel & bring the HP up as well? Flat top pistons & I'm asking the head guy now what my cc will be.

Have you spoke with guy doing your heads? What's his choice?
Is this a "drop in" 117? If so, and the combustion chambers will remain the same, 9.9:1 (listed cr for the drop in) is right in the sweet spot for the .570.

I've seen that cam shine in 88"-110".
Edit: Kirby, aka Prodrag runs a .570 in his 124" Roadglide. I'd say that speaks volumes.  :2vrolijk_21:

Been reading a lot on these new 117 kits. I think the majority are going with cams in the 600 range give or take a little. I think Steve (gmr) has done one or more with his 600 and had good results. Some have used the 259e that came with the kit with good results too. Dyno sheets have been posted as well on some of those kits. Search the forum for  117 kit. There's a few threads on it with lots of info. Good luck.

I used the SE585 because the customer wanted to stay with SE cams and it fit him better than the 259, but the 570 is on my short list of aftermarket cams for the 117 drop in.

How did those SE .585 cams do in the 117?

That is the cam was wondering about .  seems it works well, on many builds  and you would think the 117 would be a nice  also.

prolly hits a bit quicker than the 259, and pulls out to the right for those that want to go there. Actually think the 259 does quite well on the big end to be honest.

My preference is a little sooner intake close to get 900 pounds moving.   Late is great for twisting it but consider where you ride the most betting it is 2300-3500

As long as the compression is increased. TMAN .590 shines above 10.5:1.
10.8:1 about perfect.

TR mentioned his 590s when spec'ing out my 117 "Sport Touring" Build, 'went with his 625s anyway...
