Clearing codes after tuning

Question, When the dyno tune is being done, will the bike's ECU through codes for air/fuel mixture? Do they have to be reset if your using a Power Commander? The bike will have new Fullsac DX headpipes, V&H Monster Rounds and a PC-V. I'll have the work done at our local expert dyno guy and not and my local stealership. I don't think he can reset codes.

Im not real clear on what you're asking, but are you getting a Dyno tune, then putting on a PCV right after?

First thought is that if your "expert" dyno guy does not know how to retrieve and clear codes from the saddle, or is too addled or too lazy to do this before he'd return the bike to you, you really need to find a new "expert."  Retrieving and clearing codes is something you can do from the saddle using a combination of buttons and controls.

Your paying this guy.  So don't waste time worrying over whether or not he can actually do something (that he should be able to do in his sleep).  Just ask him.  Again, you're paying him so he's got no privilege to be offended by your requesting information as to his skills.

I didn't wanna chime in much more because I'm not super knowledgeable about these things. But installing a PCV right after a dyno tune I would think, would cancel out the tune you just got.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about having the bike tuned using the PC-V, not installing it afterwards.  The tune will just reside in the PC-V, not the ECM, and like all such devices it will just modify the output signals of the ECM.  If this is a late model bike with closed loop functionality, I can't imagine why anyone would use a PC-V versus having the bike tuned with a modern flash system that just replaces the stock calibration file (map) in the ECM (TTS, Power Vision, SEPST, etc.), but to each their own.

As for the codes question, I'm with Twolane on that one.  Any "tuner" that doesn't know how to clear DTC's doesn't deserve the title of "tuner".  Viewing and clearing codes can be done by anyone just using the bike itself and very simple instructions; no scan tool required.

Find another "expert" or ask him instead of saying on this site he doesn't know something this simple when he probably does. IMHO if he can't clear a code, he is definitely more of a "stealer" than the dealer you speak so harshly of.

Well  I know that from past dealing with bikes that have been tuned with a piggy back style tuner that almost none every monitor what is really going on with the ECM.. When tuning with win 7 on a PCV or III they do not need to see ECM data.. If you have win 8 you see more data but still never able to clear codes .. SO unless they use any flash tuner module to go back and read and clear .... Not uncommon to get codes with those tuner as well.. Many times it s a 02 code as they have to run it in open loop. Even the 02 diode will not always work. The cannbus is smart enough to know that the 02 sensors should move not stay static ..

Thanks for the feed back guys. I've had a couple of Non Harley bikes done by this guy and they have been perfect. He has a wide reputation in this part of Florida but I have never taken an HD to him. The main reason I don't go to my local dealer is pure lack on confidence. I guess I need to read up on resetting codes. When I say reset, I mean to clear them from the ECM. I did not know that could be done while sitting on the bike. Seems unusual but, I've not ventured in to this before so...
