Radio Display
« on: March 13, 2016, 07:27:53 PM »

Today noticed the display on the radio would flicker and sometimes go blank for a few seconds. Sound never went off. Turned off radio/IPod to just show clock. Would go blank for a second or two and flicker on and off. I guess after 35K miles these things happen. This ever happen to anybody else? And if so, what was solution?

The obvious is a loose wire for the back lighting? A ground wire?

You're about to become an Iron Cross Audio fan... check the posts he's made, many members here have had issues with their radios and Iron Cross fixes them all.

It may be that the spring contacts are loose. Try this if your handy.

1) Remove the outer faring

2) Remove the 4 screws holding the head unit in

3) Remove the head unit and the rubber seal around the face plate

4) Using a pocket screwdriver you gently pry up on the 6 points that hold the display on and gently wiggle and work the display off.

5) Using a pick set or a dental pick you will slightly bend each of the electrical tabs on the radio side of the display plug (don't get carried away just a little tweak is all you need to tighten the connection.)

6) Not needed but if you have some die electric compound put some on the connection and reassemble the stereo. Do NOT force the display back on the radio, if it won't snap back on easy you may have bent the pins too much and you will need to go back and check them (electrical silicon grease found at Radio Shack or Advanced Auto Parts)

7) Reinstall the head unit

Send me an email and I will send you a word file with pictures.
