My Nanner is too freakin noisy
« on: March 14, 2016, 11:15:17 PM »

I like the sound of a Harley as much as anyone, but.....we tend to do more touring than anything, and after a long day on the road, my head is just rattling from my exhaust noise.  I have Rineharts on my 2005 103, and they are a true dual setup.  Apparently they are a bit larger in diameter than the new factory pipes, because I had the brainstorm to try some take-offs and they didn't fit.  I am looking for a nice deep mellow sound and if I had the opportunity to pick up a bit of power by using a system that was better suited to the 103, I would enjoy that as well.  Any suggestions to steer me in the right direction would be appreciated.  I have gotten the best info from this site and I really look forward to checking out the new posts.  Thanks to all for the input.

Rinehart True Duals will do that to you. I believe those are larger diameter as you say, so you will need a new headpipe and mufflers

Do you still have your OEM headpipe? If so, pop that back on. No cats in it from 2005, so it should be fine.

For mufflers if you dont want too much volume, Id suggest you find some 4" CVO mufflers and get Fullsac 1.75" baffles. That or Kuryakyn Crusher mellows, or Jackpot mufflers from Fuel Moto, as they are a bargain for what you get.

The Crusher mellow will be better on the hearing and might help with power.  Do you have your old take off?  I guy that knows how to use a exhaust machine at a exhaust shop can stretch your slip-ons to fit the header you have.  Your take off would be good for practice for setting the machine up or to figure out if the guy knows what he is doing.  Good luck.

Good advice. Another option is to take your OEM and use a FullSac True Dual conversion kit. It looses the "Y" pipe and converts OEM into True Duals. Use the 1.75 baffles and you will be alright with the sound. It's what I am running now.

Due to their colors, the 2005 SEEGs were known as the "Fruit Years. Hence the Cherry, Banana, and Jalapeno nick names.

The "Nanner" was the brightest and easiest to see out on the road, but the "Cherry" was the most popular and definitely the fastest (ask Twolane if you don't believe me).

Well JC,...Jalapenos are green on the outside, have seeds on the inside and you pick 'em off a plant. I'm guessing they could be classified in the fruit family.
