I read recently that a CVO owner asked a dealer for the MSDS for the Harley radiator coolant, and then did some digging.  Turns out (he says), after talking to the manufacturer that the coolant, he found out that Harley is using is Peak Global Lifetime 50/50 antifreeze.  Don't know if this true or not, but...

Is anyone out there using something besides the Harley coolant?

I can hear it now...you spent $40k on a bike and you're balking at spending $25 on coolant for it?  For me, it's not the cost that's the issue, it's more the fact that I have to buy a gallon of the stuff, when I only need a few ounces.

Just saying...

One of my pet peeves with Harley is how they purposely make it difficult to buy simple commodities like lubricants, bulbs, and many others because they only list their part numbers as replacements and do not include industry standard descriptions and specs.  This is done on purpose, to try to force people to buy all their maintenance items from Harley.  Because I absolutely hate being treated that way, I refuse to buy anything from Harley that can be sourced elsewhere.  In the case of coolant, if I really thought there was something different about Harley's overpriced product and didn't want to risk a compatibility issue, I'd just drain and flush the factory stuff and replace it with the brand of my choice.  Fortunately, I don't think that's a problem here.  There are many products on the market that are supposedly compatible with all the various coolants manufacturers are using as factory fill.  Some factory fill coolants are considered longer life due to the amount of additives they contain, but as long as you change your drain and fill maintenance schedule to match the type of coolant you use there shouldn't be a problem.  It hasn't been a problem in the auto business.
