Vibration during deceleration/downshifting
« on: March 20, 2016, 01:39:23 AM »

I just had Rinehart Slimline Duals and 4" chrome slipons installed on my 2015 RGU CVO. Afterwards, I noticed bad vibration of the handlebars and instrument cluster on deceleration. As it was also backfiring a bit, I assumed it just needed tuning. However, even after a new custom tune map from Fuelmoto (excellent customer service btw to Brian who helped right up against their closing time on Friday to get me a tune map ready for the weekend) it is running better without backfire but the vibration remains.

Other odd thing is I now hear this constant hum/buzz through my headset which I immediately told the dealer service guy about as I first cranked up when picking it up after the exhaust but he said it couldn't have been due to the installation.

Anyone seeing these problems? Exhaust sounds great but starting to have some major regrets....and hate to have to go back to stock but it was running much smoother before.

I had a similar problem on my 12 street glide CVO. Turned out the heat shield was touching the floorboard. It just about shock my fillings out of my mouth. Loosened the bolts and turned the shields a bit, problem solved

I had the same experience. Heat shield was touching the floorboard mounts.

Another vote for something making contact that shouldn't. I had similar problems after installing some Rush head pipes on my '07 bike, it was also the heat shield contacting the right floorboard mount. I first noticed the rear brake pedal vibrating but it was much worse on decell as well.

Thanks...I'll check that..though it will have to be touching something other than the floor boards as there is no vibration there....only the front end.

By far the most likely source of your problem is the installation of the new exhaust system, no matter what the service guy at the dealership tells you.  One of the most common areas for the system to make contact has been the footboards or footboard brackets or brake pedals over the years, but that's not the only possibility.  And when you're looking, don't forget that the engine moves quite a bit on the mounts, but the frame and parts mounted to it doesn't.  You need more than just a smidgen of clearance.
