I've been trying to avoid riding through heavy rain for one reason:  Heavy rain goes right through the saddlebag speakers and will absolutely soak everything in your saddlebag.  The last storm I rode through, I ended up with 6" of water in the bottom of my saddlebag, not good.

I've been trying to think of an easy way to cover the speakers when I see a big ass storm ahead of me.  Any suggestions?  Saddlebags are pretty much useless when everything is wet.

I had the same bike as you and had the same problem. Went to the dealer and they replaced the gaskets under warranty. Never had the problem again. It might be worth a try to ask them about it.

My bike is out of warranty by a couple of years, but if it's just a gasket, no big deal.  I assumed everyone was having the same problem.  I really don't see how they could be water tight.

The time that I got 6 inches in the bags, it was one hell of a rain that I was riding through, even when I stopped for lunch, it was sitting in the rain.  I'm not sure that perfect gaskets could stop that much water with the saddlebag speaker design.

Sorry to hear you're having this problem. I have 13000+ miles on my 2015 SESG.  It has carried me through hundreds of miles in heavy rain with no water in my saddlebags.  Unless you count rain getting in because I opened the lid to get the rain gear out after getting wet  :nixweiss: .  It's a bummer that you didn't catch this while it was under warranty.  :(

Stu and I figured out my problem!!

I upgraded my speakers to Hybrid Audio Technologies a long time ago and I originally thought that they were just like Stu's (5X7).  When I measured them, they are 6X9 with an adapter plate.  My problem is the adapter is not a water proof setup.  The speakers sound great by the way, just can't ride in the rain with this setup.

Solution: Sell these to someone that never rides in the rain anyway and get the 5X7's that will fit perfect while being water tight.

This forum is great to get to the bottom of a problem!!

Thanks Everyone and thank you Stu for getting my brain to work!!!

Can't you just buy some gasket on a roll and put it between the speakers and the plate, then the plat to the lid?

Maybe,  I'll take a closer look when I tear into it.  It appears that the adapter is not a solid piece of plastic.

Sorry you're having problems but for everyone else's sake I'm glad it's not a moco problem for once. Gaskets is a good idea. You may also try marine grade silicone. Good luck.

I had the hybrid audio rear 5x7s. . They have bridged tweeters. .they won't leak. .  I always had dry saddle bags. .  The standard coaxials have a post right through the center.  Of course that will. Leak. .  Get the hybrid. .  Excellent. Choice. and sound amazing. . Stuart.
Stu and I have pretty much the same setup. No issues with the HATs for rain or bike washing..
