Stu and I figured out my problem!!

I upgraded my speakers to Hybrid Audio Technologies a long time ago and I originally thought that they were just like Stu's (5X7).  When I measured them, they are 6X9 with an adapter plate.  My problem is the adapter is not a water proof setup.  The speakers sound great by the way, just can't ride in the rain with this setup.

Solution: Sell these to someone that never rides in the rain anyway and get the 5X7's that will fit perfect while being water tight.

This forum is great to get to the bottom of a problem!!

Thanks Everyone and thank you Stu for getting my brain to work!!!

I am contemplating installing lid speakers on my CVO Limited. To the people that have them:  can you hear the difference while riding down the road?  Is it worth the money and the loss of space in the side bags?

When parked and going slow you can hear them. When moving at more substantial speeds, I find you don't really hear them as much as notice them missing when they are disabled.
The RHS plug was not seated properly after a service and it was immediately noticeable.

Yes you can hear them. I would think how well depends on the actual setup. I have 2 6.5" and a 4" tweeter in my bag lids. I have a lot of amp powering them and they can be heard a block away at any speed. I didn't loose any bag space with my choice of Fairing Factory lids. With the CVO lids and adapter rings the speakers hung down in the bag a fair amount.

Puzzled,

I'll try it.  They do sound good, so I'd like to keep them.  They do take up a lot of my bag space with the factory lids.

What did you use to seal yours?

On my OEM lids I used clear silicone to seal the speakers to the lids and to the adapters.

I'm so freaked out that mine are going to leak...I bought a set of non-speaker lids and I'm going to put my CVO lids and speakers in a box for later. I shouldn't get water in my the bags after this.

Seems harsh when there are remedies that don't include loosing your speakers.

yeah, you are correct, but I'll probably just put the speaker lids back on very soon anyway. =) I really just suffer from "not being able to just leave things alone" more then anything else.. It's all good. I know how I am..
