One-seventeen in Twenty-seventeen?
« on: March 22, 2016, 05:17:46 PM »

As CVOs are considered showcases for HD's Screamin' Eagle parts, what do you think the chances are that the 2017s will be released with the 117 CI next year?

I'm bored and wonder what folks think about the possibility and if there are any rumors, etc. out there.

My guess is that we could see a 107 in the lower motors and possibly the 120 ST in premier CVO line since it is street legal version.

My guess is 110 across the board in big twins, seeing several non-CVO bikes already get the 110.

My guess is it will be the 117 for the CVO.  I'm sure it will be bigger than 110.

117 is a good possibility.  Not sure when, but since Indian has the 111, the MoCo has to be considering that also.

No sure but something bigger than the 110 for sure, since they're putting these engines in non-CVO bikes.

A buddy was just in WI at the engine plant to take a tour and the Steel Toe version of it was shut down due to MY changeover for what that's worth

I'm sure of one thing the only ones who know aren't telling. It may be fun to speculate for some though

Time will tell for sure. A couple of things to remember is the 120st already has been CARB approved, and we have been the Guinea Pigs for the 117 drop in kit. To meet EPA regs in these motors they run them lean and with low compression. Back in the day I believe the 103 only had 8.9 to 1 compression and was lean and very hot to ride. Now we have water cooled heads so they can up the compression some what. The 117 kit is 9.9 to one and I have no idea what the 120st compression ratio is. Unbalanced may have it.

My bet is the 117 CI for the 2017 models. I'm sure they will stay with the SE255 cams. With a good A/C and a good set of pipes this motor will give you plenty of power. Now that is JMHO and I have been wrong before.

Be Safe

OBB's comment is enlightening in that it's a bit too early for a MY changeover--those happen around Sturgis--so it may entail more substantive changes than simply prepping the assembly line for 'typical' MY minor upgrades. Look at this from a totally marketing standpoint--what makes sense?  Which motors are CARB-approved; more importantly, which motors are proven for mass-production and some semblance of quality? The 107 has a long track record, so I can see it becoming the de-facto motor. If H-D wants to move a wide variety of bikes--targeting different population, or market, segments, than it makes sense to keep the 110-based 'S-series' bikes as a separate product line. So, yes, the 117 motor in the CVO line could become an option.

Not really saying sooth, just looking at it from a different viewpoint.

To me it seems unlikely the HD has spent all the engineering effort and taken the cost of emission approval for the 120st, only to recoup the investment on over the counter engine sales. No way!

Might be a good idea to wait with my CVO purchase until we know whats in the works.
If the 16,5 or 17 models are still 110, so il buy one.
If they become 117 or 120, the 110 left overs will for sure be sold at better prices, if not il buy a bike with a lot more motor.
(the 117 or 120)
