Motorcycle Shippers
« on: February 03, 2007, 10:29:56 AM »

Does anyone in this forum have experience with shipping their motorcycle, either domestically or internationally?

I've searched through these threads and haven't found much information.  I've been searching the internet over the past few months, trying to locate the most economical shipper to get my baby to Japan.  I found several that will put her on a slow boat, and one recently that will fly her there.

My problem is trust.  I don't like the idea of turning my $36,000 baby, with keys and a clear title over to a stranger--even with insurance.  I've checked BBB and searched for other red flags.  I'd rather use a company that one or several members of this forum have had success with.

Does anyone have anything negative to say about these guys?

Thanks for any feedback.

Charles,

You would be much better off if you contacted the shippers directly instead of any of these companies. These guy do not actually ship your bike all they do is make arrangements to have it shipped. I personally would have my local dealership crate my bike then have the shipping company pick it up from the dealer.

contact either Matson or Horizon lines shipping to inquire on rates and if they ship to where you need to go. Or they can tell you who does ship to where you need it.

Best of luck

Said it before and I'll say it as long as someone keeps asking the question

You absolutely 100% cannot beat Allied Van Lines for shipping a motorcycle. Why?  They really care about their reputation for not damaging anything they ship. I have never heard even one story about anyone complaining their bike got damaged in shipment when Allied was the shipper>

IMHO

Mark,
Thanks.  I'll research Matson and Horizon.  My baby's been sitting in her original crate in the dealer's warehouse, since I bought her in Sept.  Shipping should be a relatively easy thing to do.  Just trying to avoid any nasty surprises when I get to Japan.

Thanks for the referrals.

Thanks B B...
Guess I should've thought of them before.  I'll add them to my short list of companies to research.

Here's a thead here.............  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?action=post;topic=10694.0;num_replies=5

I think the majority of us that have shipped here in this country have used Keyboard Carriage.  Me, AK, Jonga, Mr. Magoo and several others have used them.  When we flew into Atlanta to pick up our bikes, the Service Manager said that they hadn't seen bikes crated as well as ours were, from any other shipper before. :nixweiss:  We were happy with the shipping from Keyboard Carriage.
