« on: March 27, 2016, 12:43:49 PM »

Took a swing by the local dealership yesterday. They had a 2016 Road Glide Special with dealer added "Solar Eclipse Paint set, Boom Stretched Bags, 110 kit, Stage 1 etc" yours for only..................$46,375.50  NOT a C.V.O.!    :confused5:  (tried to add photo's of bike and price tag but system said photo file too big) Is it just me or are have prices gotten out of hand?

It's not just you.  What you're seeing is the greediest of the dealers going back to business as usual.  The sad part is that these places manage to stay in business with those tactics, so I guess it says a lot more about gullible consumers than it does about greedy Harley dealers.  Wait until the genius who eventually buys that thing tries to trade it in a year or two down the road and finds it isn't worth half of what he paid.

Should think it would say too big at $46.4K :P and not even a CVO!! :'( OUCH!!
The thing about HD here in the UK they charge the same price as US $ Prices even though the Pound £ is slightly higher then the $. At a £46K UK price HD can pull in up to as much as $80K US for the same bike. HD doesn't recognise  exchange rates.

As with all things, isn't it a little more complicated than that?  I thought there was a 6% import duty and 20% import VAT on bikes larger than 950cc.  That would bring the cost of a $42,000 US bike to just under $54,000 US.  Add to that destination costs and any tariffs and duties imposed by the EU and pretty soon you're talking real money - much of which doesn't go to HD.  Can't blame all of this on the MOCO.  A lot of it lies at the feet of national and local governments.

Yes there are import and EU cost but remember that cost is basted on a product  package witch lowers the percentage cost per unit. In other words if I was to buy a new bike in the US and have it shipped over my self I would have paid (say for argument sake) $36K US by the time I'm in the saddle I would of paid £27/28K UK instead of £36K of the dealer floor.
Most buyers won't  go though the hassle them selves  but I know of guys here that do in order to pay less then the floor set price.
At £28K UK is on the rough at $48K US that gives you $6K  on a $42K new bike to ship over a saving of £8/10K UK.
MOCO makes more off a UK sale then meets the eye. Just saying.

Too true.  I find myself wondering about HD's distribution arrangements in the UK.  If they're anything like they were I Canada, one company has sole rights to import and wholesale all things Harley.  That would add another (perhaps significant) percentage to each unit.  I'm also curious about the costs of doing business in England.  Things like payroll taxes, property tax, sales and corporate taxes would also raise the cost of products.  I have a friend visiting from Derbyshire next month.  There's a topic I can discuss with her - but not until after the third or fourth pint.

The situation in Australia seems to have differences and similarities to the UK and the US

A new gloss black 110 cube Softail Slim can be bought "Ride away" AKA " out the door" AKA " on the road" for $28,950 Australian dollars

In 2008 I paid $32,000 ride away for an Anniversary FXSTC Softail Custom , so times have changed

My CVO Breakout was $45K ride away here in 2013

Right now it's 76 US cents to our Aussie dollar , in 2011 it was $1.05 USD to our dollar , quite a percentage change in 5 years
