Bluetooth Headsets- Advice Please!
« on: April 10, 2016, 02:35:35 PM »

Wife and I are planning our first long (10 days) bike trip. Looking into the Bluetooth headsets. I understand the no voice commands on the HD systems, but beyond that, what's the best "bang for buck"? So far - the 10s seems to be the way to go. No huge group rides, not overpriced.... what's everyone's thoughts? Need solid advice please.

Had one of the first bluetooth helmets in the country several years back when the Nolans first came out.  Picked it up in Europe and brought it home before they were being imported to the US.  Loved the bluetooth functionality and phone pairing for music and GPS and the intercom function for when my (then) little niece was riding with me.

As for riding with girlfriends or in range of other adults for conversation while riding; it didn't take too long to realize that bluetooth helmets were the absolute best tool to remind why riding solo is better that's ever been developed....  :drink:

After trying 4 different bluetooth headsets the Sena 20s were the best for us.
With the addition of a Sena BT10 and a couple wires you can also have full
voice commands, CB and phone.
Just for info we both ride with shorty half helmets.

Scala Rider here with no complaints. We ride with half helmets and the sound is fine. A bud has the Sena and complains that it has wind noise. He has tried everything and still has that complaint. Mine is clear as can be no matter what speed.

I should've mentioned, I have the Harley FXRG  Shark helmet. We haven't picked her up a helmet yet. So I appreciate the different perspectives  (half,3/4,full). She hates wearing them, so I need to explore those options too .

The wind noise is through the mic.

Don mentioned the Nolan in his post above.  I have also been using the Nolan helmets for a number of years.  They are great for talking on the phone (nobody can tell that you're on a motorcycle, not even at freeway speeds), listening to your music as well as the intercom system.  The newer model of bluetooth/intercom from Nolan allows you to talk to four other helmets (other riders and/or your passenger) that you're paired to.

That four person ability to communicate while moving down a road might not seem like much of a feature that you'd need or use......until you use it with others.  Up in Nor Cal many of the members of this forum ended up getting the Nolan N-104 for this reason.  Also, the Nolan N-104 will keep you head completely dry, even in a rain storm at speed.  Not all full face and/or modular helmets will keep you dry in a driving rain at 70 mph.
