Radio question/problem
« on: April 23, 2016, 02:25:57 PM »

Sure this will get moved but here goes, 15 CVO Limited playing music off of a usb storage device, used to be able to either skip a song or repeat a song from the home button.  Moving button side to side would advance a song or go back to beginning now it doesn't.  When playing the radio that action will still advance through presets but can't move through songs on the jump drive.  Anyone been there done that and know how to fix it? Dealership doesn't.

At first I tried a USB drive, but went to an SD card plugged into a reader that plugged into the USB port and voila, no more problems.
It is weird that it used to work fine but now is not.  Have you recently updated your Boombox firmware?
I know someone will come along with a fix, but I've not had the problem with my '15 like you are having...yet.
All the songs on the USB are MP3 files, correct?   And your file structure is all in the root directory of the memory stick?
On my SD card, every musical group is kept in their own folder and every folder is part of the root directory.
Did you use the same software to create the memory stick folders?
You get the gist...keep your methods the same when creating the folders on the memory device.
You could try pulling your main fuse and then trying to recreate the weirdness again.  Also, I believe there is a reset within the menu structure of the boom box.  You could look for that and try it as well.
Sorry for the random thoughts, but I'm just thinking out loud here...   :nixweiss:

I have 1 usb memory stick (what ever they are called) that I loaded a bunch of music on when I first got the bike.  It is a mixture of mp3's and mp4's.  I have never changed anything on it and just left it plugged into the bike.  I can't see paying for satellite radio when I have the music I want to listen to already.  I have about 30 hours worth of my favorite music on it and the advance rewind had always worked until just recently.

If I knew how to reboot the stupid radio I would.

There is a difference between an MP3 and an MP4 file, and I'm not totally sure the boombox will play a file formatted to MP4.  MPEG4 is an apple container type file, capable of storing video as well as audio.  It plays well on itunes and apple electronics devices, but not so well on others.  That maybe at least part of the issue here.

Your 15 Limited should play MP3, MP4, MPEG-4, AAC, M4A, M4B, WAV and WMA.

Just looked at my memory stick and all my songs are M4A and they play fine.  M4A is simply audio only MPEG4.

And, I had the same issue as you have on my 15 Limited where I could not skip or go back. Just started all of a sudden for no apparent reason.  Anyway, I think I just went into the system settings and confirmed that it was still set to "Seek" and it fixed it.  From the home screen select Media   then Menu and press the Seek button.

Then again I may have just turned the bike off and on and it fixed it.  :huepfenlol2:

Unfortunately the more choices they give people, be it audio systems or computer software or whatever, the easier it is to accidently screw things up.  I've read many threads concerning the infotainment system and it seems many problems have been related to one of the many customization settings being changed.  This can happen during system updates, or the user can make a change for one circumstance and not realize it will also affect other operating modes as well.  BT mentioned something that will in fact cause what you reported, so by all means give what he said a try.

If you haven't done any infotainment system updates (downloads), either yourself or by a dealership, and the system used to work fine, then it's very likely a simple setting change.  If you've done several setting changes and don't remember what you changed, that's when you look for the reset option and just return everything to the stock settings.  Your manual is your best friend in these situations (ridiculous that they now have to issue a separate huge manual just for the radio, but that's what happens when they throw everything but the kitchen sink on a vehicle).

You have changed the setting that is controlled by the left to right operation of the "home" joystick. Check, I know this because I did it several months back.

I think you need to change it from “presets” to “Seek”
Depending on the configuration, the PREVIOUS/NEXT hand
control switch will either advance through each song individually,
or through each preset that is programmed for the device.
1. Select Home > Media > Menu.
2. Press the multiselect button to show Seek (to advance
through each song) or Preset (to advance through each
preset).
3. Press the PREVIOUS/NEXT hand control switch to
advance to the previous or next song (or preset) in the
device.

Look at pg. 79,80
