If I got the tire and wheel coverage, do they cover worn out tires?

If you get a nail or screw, they'll prorate it based on the tread depth.

If you're asking will they just replace a tire that's worn down to the wear bars......no, they will not.  You have to pay for normal wear.

The best way to think of it is that the tire and wheel coverage is similar to what the auto industry calls road hazard coverage.  It does not cover normal wear and replacement, or things like defective chrome on a rim.  If you get a puncture and it's not repairable, they will replace the tire.  If you hit a huge pothole and blow the tire as well as bend the wheel, they will replace both of them.  Sort of like that.

Btw, when you buy something like an ESP or the Tire and Wheel coverage, they are supposed to give you paperwork that fully explains what is and isn't covered.  If you didn't receive it, go back to the dealership and have them provide it.

Jerry, I know that you post "fact" vs. opinion, most of the time so just a couple quick questions (I could do the research myself....but if you know off the top of your head...........) ....as you know, I bought my 13 CVO Ultra Classic used (still under the factory warranty but came with the extended warranty for a total of 7 years).

I did not receive any paperwork however, they've replaced my back tire twice, under the tire & wheel coverage due to a nail the first time and a lag bolt the second time.  Do I just go to any dealership to get a copy of the extended warranty or contact the warranty company directly?

In your post above you mention "if you puncture and it's not repairable".....I thought they quit repairing motorcycle tires years ago?  If it has a hole in it, it's a replacement (unless you're plugging it yourself as an emergency roadside situation)?

Puncture repair versus replacement most likely would depend on the company providing the road hazard coverage and the size and location of the puncture.  So rather than mislead anyone by saying if you got a puncture they would replace the tire, I chose to say if it's not repairable.  I assume, but cannot state for a fact, that a motorcycle policy would normally replace, not repair.

As far as the paperwork for the ESP and the Tire and Wheel Coverage JC, I would think that any dealership could provide you with that information.  They can definitely give you the details on the in-service date and what coverage the bike actually has, and while they may not give you a personalized copy of the contract the previous owner didn't give you, they should be able to give you a generic copy of the full contract terms.

Contract does say 'repair or replace' tires and/or wheels.  I've had two rear tires replaced due to nail punctures and no question at all about replacing with a new tire.  I seriously doubt any dealer would even consider repairing a tire - too much liability I would think in case of failure of repair.

And tire must have at least 3/32" of tread depth to be covered.

Also, I notice that the contract form for my '07 has a form revision date of 03/05 while the contract form for my '12 has a form revision date of 08/10.  I don't know if the latter is still current or if there is an even newer contract form.  I've not compared them in detail to see what changes were made.

I got the whole enchilada with my '09 SERG.  I had the typical cupped tires very early on, but the tread depth was still very good at the wear indicators.

My service manager said that they could not replace it under warranty.  I mentioned that I had the tire and wheel coverage and all of a sudden right in their write up area it acquired a big hole in it that could not be repaired.  Actually both front and rear had the same holes, must have been some punk throwing out bolts on the road???

If your manager is kind, he can do some things for you.

I've had several folks tell of their success with the tire/wheel coverage "paying for itself".
I'm wondering, is the tire policy actually pro-rated? How much have you been charged for wear?
It seems that my buddies imply they get new tires "free".
I remain incredulous.
I don't have ESP now, but might later on another.

I got two new tires free.  The first one.....the tread was getting down there but they replaced it and no pro-rating, due to a nail.  The second one (barely a thousand miles later) was a large screw....no pro-rating.

I've since had to buy both front and rear just due to normal wear.  But those two rear tires were a huge savings.

There is no pro-rating.  If the tire has at least 3/32" of tread and damage is caused by one of the covered causes then it is replaced free of charge - no deductible, no pro-rating.

I'd gladly pay $50 for a tire vs the $290 plus install for one that wasn't covered.  I just bought a new set of stock tires (my dealer gives 20% off tires), took the rear wheel in to them for M&B ( 1/2 hours instead of the normal hour plus I didn't need an appt for a lift). Dunlop has that $50 gift card rebate going on now until the end of May so that payed for the rear M&B plus a bag of chips and a soft drink from the vending machine. It was still $506 OTD and I'll have to pay M&B when it's time to put the front one on.
